ATI Powermodule Hybrid Club

With a tank that is 63" long, am I better off going with the 48" dimmable Powermodule or the 60"? Either way, I am thinking about 8-bulbs.

Are you wanting to go with the 48" purely for the dimmable feature? Personally, I would go with the 60" fixture. I don't dim my T5 as I believe it shortens the bulb life. I have two 48" fixtures over my 96" long tank.

I know ATI tells you not point the vents towards each other because it will cause heating issues.

I'm not sure what your setup is like, but if you can add a small fan to get air movement between the two fixtures I think it would be fine.

Thanks for the feedback. I decided not to point the vents towards each other. There is a 4-5" gap between the fixtures due to the power cord being so darn thick but it looks perfectly fine.

I have the fixture pretty high off the water line right now to acclimate the corals to the new light. Previous setup was 4 AI Vega color which only gave me 300 par at the water line, 150 par mid tank and 80-90ish par on the sand bad.

The ATI fixtures really are par monsters!!

Bump my question please [emoji16]

On my aquarium, which is 30" wide, the 8-bulb is just barely enough to have proper front to back coverage. I think you'd be cutting it close with 4 bulbs, unless you raise the fixture up high.

Since I have a 48" tank with a 48" fixture I can't comment on side coverage, but given that the T5 reflectors are designed to reflect front to back, I would suspect there would be considerable shadowing.

Either way you'll have to raise the fixture up high.

Assuming they make a 36" with 8 bulbs, that might work out better. I definitely think a 48" with 8 bulbs would be a total waste.

Get the exact dimensions of the 48" fixture, it might look OK on a 46" tank.

I asked this question a few post back but didn't get an answer so just incase anyone was wondering, you can use a tablet to control the lamps in light studio. I purchased the microsoft surface pro 3 to easily control the lights. It will also be used to control my apex and ghl doser.

I believe you can per an email from ATI tech support. However I have not tried it personally.

I did email ATI and they didn't even know if you could or not but said you probably could. I went and bought the tablet and I am just confirming that you can used a windows tablet to control the lamps in Light Studio.

The software works with Windows so I don't see why it would not work with a Surface. You may have to get the Win10 version though.

I have just installed mine, 4x39 and 2x75 fixture on an 36" tank. Impressed by the colors and coverage. The only LED outperform my two Maxspect Mazarra modules P with no shadows !!!

I want to add that I recently saw the 36" 8 Bulb Hybrid over a longer aquarium at my LFS. I don't think the aquarium was 48" long, but a very similar situation that you are in. I was impressed how well the coverage was on the sides. So a shorter fixture might be a good option for you. However I still believe the front to back depth could be an issue with only 4 bulbs.

Does anyone know if ATI is considering APEX compatibility? Sure would be nice to be able to change the setting on my light via fusion and not have to drag my laptop next to the ballast.

That sure would be nice but once you get your lights set you forget it.
it's nice to play with your new toy now but two months from now you're not going to be changing anything.

Hi Everyone,

I'm thinking of switching my current lighting to the ATI Powermodule Hybrid. My tank is 8 feet long, 4 feet deep and 2 feet in height. I will be keeping SPS corals.

Which fixture and how many would be enough for my tank? really appreciate any help.

thanks!

I put two 48" fixtures over my 8x2x2 tank. I went with the 8 bulb unit, more than enough lights for my tank.

I would think the same set up will work for your tank but the front and back of that 4 ft depth will probably have a bit less par but I'll assume your corals will mainly be in the middle right?

the 8-tube fixtures are 28" front to back. I wonder whether you would be better with two of the 4-tube fixtures, one in front of the other, to cover the front-to-back depth

How long are you guys running all 8 bulbs for?

Are you guys using the LEDS during the main photoperiod when all 8 bulbs are on?

My lights have been up and running since wednesday. 8 bulbs run for 6 hours and the fixture is pretty high off the water line to acclimate the corals to the new lights. I notice some of my LPS and Zoas will close up a bit when the 8 bulbs + LEDS are all on but will open up nice and big when only 4 bulbs + LEDS are on.

Run 4 T5s 8.5 hours and 8 T5s 3.5 hours. LEDs ramp up and down 3 hours before and after T5s with 1 hour overlap with T5s, so no LEDs during most of T5 period.

Just a thought but why not go with Sunpower units with 2 Reef Brite LEDs along the length. Should be plenty of punch.

This may be a dumb question, but is the USB cable that's needed to go between a computer and the ATI control box a special issue you have to get from ATI, or a standard issue cable?
