ATI Powermodule Hybrid Club

Sahin, I have a 220 sps reef tank dimensions are 72x24x30 with 3 radion pros over it. I'm contemplating making the switch to ati led power module. I was thinking of going with the ATI 60" 4x75W LED & 8x80W T5 LED-Powermodule. Reason being is the depth.

I would like to know what you recommend?

Thanks in advance for any help.

The 60" LED PM with 8 tubes is exactly what I would recommend for this sized tank.

You will have great front to back coverage and PAR all the way to the bottom. Even without going full power on the LED clusters, I'd estimate you should hit 300+ PAR on the sandbed...I've messed around with my PAR meter for many years in different tanks and lighting, and have a fair idea of how much PAR the LED PM's produce.

With the 60" LED PM you will only have 6" uncovered tank area on the ends. This is no problem as the LED PM will punch light down even in the bottom corners and will produce at least 200-220 PAR in the bottom corners.

You will also eliminate a lot of shadow areas.

Honestly, the Radion Pro is a very nice light...IMO the best out there for pure LED. However, for such a sized tank, I'd say you need at least 2 more Radions. My LFS has a similar sized tank and they just got rid of a 60" ATI unit and put 3 Radions Gen3 Pros...no way enough...even my buddy who has Radions said the same thing.

With pure LED's being as they are currently, you will not match the light filling that a hybrid light produces. Remember, even with halides, people used VHO's or T5's not only as supplements, but to fill in the dark shadow areas...and metal halides were no way as restricted as LED's are in terms of light spread.

The unit you propose will do nicely for your tank. Hope this helps.

Thank you for your detailed reply.

I was thinking about adding 3 more pros, but I do miss the added color that t-5s bring.

I will let you know when I make my decision, right now it looks like a new fixture is in my future.

Thanks for your help.

Hey Sahin.

So I went ahead and took your advice and went big with my tank, knowing that I may upgrade down the road. I went with the 36" 4 bulb module for my 36" x 24" x 16" shallow reef tank. I've rigged it in an open-top canopy and it's about 8 inches or so above the water line. I have a lot of LPS, and I plan to keep SPS. What settings would you recommend?

For a tank currently with lots of LPS:

Blue+
Blue+
--LED--
Coral+ OR Purple+
Blue+

Royal Blue: 255
Blue: 100
White: 95 if using Purple+ or 80 if using Coral+
Red: 20

I recommended the above and created a light profile based on the above settings for another LPS keeper. He PM'd me after a few days and said he really likes the look and his corals really nice too.

perhaps might help other people who like me are not able to use computor software and are a little worried about their ability to use this light.
t5s were not working after installation, took fitting down and checked them two were not secured properly, fitting back up now all working perfectly!
the fitting(5 foot four tube)is over a 8 footxtwo footxtwo foot sps tank,at one foot over water surface,it covers back to front perfectly and gives a good cover over length with a slightly shaded ends still plenty to bring out star polyps and with a little change to rockwork i feel is fine for me.
i measured 650 par at midday with t5 and factory setting, over nearly all of tank surface, the standard colour looks nice to me and it seems to start at 10o/c am ramping up seamlessly and ramps down again seemlessly to a 10o/c moonlight.my t5s front to back are:
b+
ab
led
p+
b+
i am very happy with light ,it was and is very simple to set up with controller only and for me gets you easily started out of box without any drama.
so happy i fact if i can sell another body part i will get a three foot unit for other tank holding clams ,gorgonions, gonapora and lps replacing 400w halide without any reservations about my ability to set it up.
regards graham.

Thanks for the feedback. Good to hear it went well.

Thanks Sahin. The numbers you aforementioned are at peak periods?

Yes, run those numbers for the LED peak period (around 5 hours at least)...and then maybe have a lot less white an hour before and after and then just Royal Blue an hour before and after etc. Hope that makes sense.

Hey Sahin. I don't mean to be a pest, but are these settings for the LEDs? What about the T5s?

Also, I ended up purchasing 2 super blues, 1 new gen 14000k and a Fiji purple.

I would say run the T5's at 100%. Since we have dimmable units, you can run them at full for say 4 hours, and ramping up and down either side of that. It really depends on how much PAR your corals are used to.

I created a profile for someone the other day with the T5's at 70% and LED's at 75% peak because their corals had much weaker lights before and they had mainly LPS.

Watch your corals closely checking to see if they are becoming pale etc. Reduce the intensity or photo period if that happens.

I run my lights at 100% on the T5's for 7 hours and 8 hours on the LED's. But my SPS are all used to it and out of the 45 SPS I have, only one stopped growing and became pale. I simply measured the PAR around my tank and found a shaded area with low PAR and put it there.

40 x 24x 20 SPS dominated reef.
I have 36"4x39 T5+ 2x75 LED ATI PM LED.

What would be best bulb combo and program for this set up?

Love this light, but I am having a very difficult time programming it.

Clueless would be accurate.

Hi there.

I created a light profile for you and emailed it a few mins ago. You asked me to create a profile which commences at 5pm and turns off at 1am.

The reason for posting this here is to let others know as well, that you cant program beyond 23.59; beyond that is only for moonlight.

You can of course easily deal with this by adjusting the time on your controller so the time the program is set to commence, corresponds with 5pm. Ie on the light profile I setup the program to switch on at 12pm, so the time on the controller clock should be set 5 hours in advance of real time. Hope I got that right...

I would REALLY appreciate anyone who wants to make a light profile suggestion for me. I get my 4xt5 48 inch hybrid next week. I have a 90 gallon tank and below i have my entire tank specs. I was planning on running 3x blue plus 1x purple plus but i am open to all suggestions. Thanks in advance! My email is dbsalinas89@gmail.com!!

Rodney, beautiful shots on the last page. Corals look fantastic!
Now that you've had the ati for several months, I'm wondering what major or subtle differences you've noticed in your corals since switching from the Mitras.
I'm still hanging in there with my Mitras.... For now..
Just wondering about your opinion on one vs the other..
Thanks!

Very interesting question. I would like to know as well. Doesnt mean the Mitras is bad or anything, but it would be good to know your thoughts.

Sahin, since I know you are on the board, at the moment (although I'm not sure if you ever leave.. :) ) I just want to tell you that your work in this thread, not to mention many, many other threads is really quite impressive and MUCH appreciated.
You are a tireless contributor to RC and I applaud you!!
Thank you!

Thanks guys. :) But honestly, I am just giving back to the community that helped me learn what I have learnt over the past 12 years being a member on this forum. I have asked many great reef keepers over the years numerous questions either via posts or PM's...and still do as we never stop learning.

I've also been using hybrid T5/LED even before ATI came out with their unit...made my own about 2 years before ATI released their unit, so I have a bit of experience in this area. Not that its anything groundbreaking, but it means I kind of have an idea what works etc. :reading:

Hi there. Since your tank is mainly LPS/Softies, go with your intended T5 combo:

Front:

ATI Blue+
ATI Blue+
--LED's--
ATI Purple+
ATI Blue+

You can make up the rest of the spectrum using the White LED's.

I will email you a profile now.

PS, get a mod to remove your email bro...you will get a crapload of SPAM as there as software out there scanning forum's for email addresses to spam. Never post your email directly in a forum. :)
