Patrick Cox - I was seeing if it would be possible to hang inside the canopy.

Logzor - Thanks for the info. Heat was something I would be concerned about. I've entertained the idea of getting rid of the canopy. My tank is eurobraced. I don't think it would not look bad without a canopy. I guess I'm just a little anxious about hanging something from the ceiling. Haven't had to do that yet in my adventures in the hobby.

Nothing makes me feel more warm and fuzzy inside than hanging a 55 lb light fixture that costs $2,000 over a saltwater aquarium filled with expensive corals and fish!

I think so long as you use big deck screws and drill into studs you're in good shape. The fixture comes with a hanging kit that can link into ceiling drywall as well, but is that really strong enough to hold the fixture?

It's unlikely that the hanging kit will line right up with studs so you almost need to attached a board to the ceiling by screwing into the studs and then attach the hanging kit into the board. This is what I ended up doing.

FYI I have mine hanging since Feb from ceiling using toggle bolts. Have no problems with it and bolts are rated to hold 100 lbs. I know some will disagree but if ceiling is installed right toggle bolts work fine. Also my studs were not aligned with tank so that was a problem. I could have added a block of wood but that would mess the aesthetics of the room. In the end I have had no issues with this lamp hanging from the ceiling. Before this I had a PacSun lamp hanging the same way for 3 years.

I hang the fixture from a 80/20 aluminum bar which has been anchored in the ceiling studs.

I really love the idea of being able to move the light left right besides just up down from from the hanging kit

Forgot to mention, the above is a 36" 8 bulb PM on a 4' tank and with the 80/20 aluminum bar, I can move the entire fixture to the right or left 15" so if I'd want to aclimate new coral I can easily move the fixture the other way 15"

I haven't been having much luck keeping any sps in my tank lately just thinking of making it a mushroom tank and easy to keep lps. which in turn require lower light. looking for some suggestions of what I should do like just run 4 bulbs at a time or still run all 8 bulbs and just raise the fixture really high. maybe even change my bulbs or what order there in. my current bulbs and configuration are in order (actinic, blue+, coral+, blue+, led, blue+ coral+, blue+, actinic+). I'm not really good at figuring out lighting schedules how much time ect.. if anyone wants to make me a profile that would be awesome  . just looking to keep some mushrooms, zoas and lps I no this fixture is overpowered for what I'm looking for but it just looks so good on my tank:lmao:

Mmm thats a beautiful tank and awesome aquascape. Why aren't you able to keep sps?
That light is a beast for LPS/mushrooms and I'd suggest running the LED's more with a lower intensity on one channel only... I'd even try to go LED only, however have to be careful as LED's can burn LPS

I can help maybe send a PM. Try running half your bulbs as super/pure actinic. This will help reduce unnecessary PAR but also boost coloration. Run the remaining bulbs as Blue+ and supplement with white LEDs to balance the color.

So i'm not really happy with the colour rendition of my corals under my ATI Hybrid right now.

The bulb combination is :

"¢3 ATI Aquablue Special
"¢2 ATI Blue Plus
"¢1 ATI Coral Plus
"¢1 ATI Purple Plus
"¢1 ATI Actinic

And the LED colours at peak are :

Red - 5
Blue - 200
Royal blue - 200
White - 152

Now also a mitigating factor is the fact I gutted and majorly rescaped / reset the tank a few weeks back.

However the colours look very flat, washed out and a bit 'pink'?

Here's a photo with all tubes on, with the LEDs as above :

I was thinking of swapping one of the ABS to a Blue Plus?

Thoughts?

Too much ABS I think. Remove 2 ABS and replace with Blue+. Also reduce the white on LEDs. Are you trying to get a white or blue look?

Thoughts, visually improved colors:

LED. First reduce the white. Too much white has a tendency to wash out the colors, most people would say around 100, I would say down to 50. Second, increase RB to maximum, this is where RB should be. Third, experiment with Red, the aesthetic look depends on what T5 bulbs you are using.

T5. I would replace the 3 ABS with 2 BP and 1 CP, this gives you slightly less green spectrum. Too much green can also have a tendency to wash out colors.

Good luck [emoji106]

I just bought my tickets to the club! :) Two 36", 8-bulb units. Going over 7' x 28" x 24" high, Reef Savvy Starphire tank........ Tank should be here in April........
