Nice work:thumbsup:
Thanks Dave!!
It seems to me the alk, cal, mag levels are reverberating currently..... seems like it might take some time to stabilize with the doser......
in the mean while the corals are taking the brunt and Im not a happy camper.....
I made the mistake of not adding the doser from day one the cycling was going on, that way it would be done reverberating.....
I added them the day I got the corals...and poor corals..... and upset me....:mixed:
Resist the urge to chase your alk, calcium and magnesium numbers. Since your tank is new and you don't have a lot of calcifying (Hard) corals (SPS/LPS), you should technically be fine with just regular water changes. It's not until you have several decent sized hard coral colonies that are growing rapidly that you will see a significant drop in your alk/calcium/Mg and require regular dosing to keep up in between water changes.
Since you have the dosers, I would just set them to a low dose and only test once a week and only act on the numbers when you see a trend over 3 consecutive weeks (assuming the numbers aren't clear off-the-charts crazy). Some will probably say testing once a week is too much, but if you just want to get a baseline for your dosing schedule I would say its fine. Once you get a rough idea on how fast your tank is using alk/calc/Mg you can change your testing schedule accordingly. I'm currently on a monthly testing for the big 3 in my tank and make slight adjustments to my dosing schedule each time I test.
Best of luck! When you get things stable again and want try SPS let me know and I'll give you a green digi or birdsnest to throw in there and try.

What he said!
The only thing I would add is to keep a close eye on it if coraline algae starts taking off since it uses up a lot of calcium.
