Away We Go - New Reef Set Up 230-250 gal

Last night we tried to get a shot of our moon lights. We got a decent one. We are using the Neptune Systems Lunar Module with 5. The spread, evenness, and brightness of these are very good. I was worried they would only be average.

This morning we found and caught Mantis #2 with a NET of all things. This guy was just swimming around the tank. We have never seen that before!!!

wow thats soo cool:) i wish i had your live rock lol

We don't get any good hitchhikers up in ontario:(

Keep up the great work:)

Was the rock cured?
How much of a cycle do you expect to get?

Zack:)

See if you can see the Mantis at work. While your at it, feel free to look around the tank. The camera is focused on the Mantis house, which right now, he has closed up his hole. His hole is the small one on the rock facing the camera. The camera is very close to the tank, so movement is limited, but check it out.

Click here to see if the Mantis is at work.

Now the tiger goby is in the larger crevice to the right of the mantis. I can't believe he has not become a snack.

Finally got to sit down and read your entire thread. Nice work! For those reading along in this thread, I had the pleasure of going over to Giesers home yesterday and seeing the tank and equipment room. It is amazing. I always see these elaborate builds on Reef Central, and it was nice to finally be able to see one in person. You guys have done alot of great work, and I can't wait to see the tank once the rest of the live rock goes in, and some livestock gets added. Maybe if I bring my wife over to see it all, hopefully she will be inspired about the hobby like Kelly is. Gieser also gave me one of the Mantis shrimp that he caught, and he is now happily residing in my refugium. He has already staked out a hole in one of my rocks to call his home, and fortunately, it is a hole by the front glass of my fuge so that I can watch him. Thanks for the Mantis! I took some pics of him that I hope to post soon.

Thank you OneReef!! I was glad to see you come by. Always happy to have another reefer come over to the house. I am glad you like the set up! Also, let's get you and the wife over for some dinner or something...we will make a believer of her yet! I am happy the Mantis os working out well for you.

I agree with OneReef, Gieser's done one heck-uv-a job on this thread and with the construction. This system is top notch and definately one I'd like to get a look at!
On a side note, it looks like OneReef's mantis is the same species as the one you gave me last week.
Mantisville won't rise from the ashes, but the "Mantis Motel" has been designed and will begin construction tomorrow when I get my sawblade back from being sharpened.
Ready for more updates!

even if the rock was "pre-cured" there will be another curing once it's in his system. Albeit, a smaller cure. Usually, vendors don't cure the rock they sell. its just harvested and shipped out. the ones that do offer pre-cured rock do so at a premium.
Since Gieser got LR and LS the cycle should be short, and since it was well packaged he'll probably never even notice it. I'm gonna have to order from them sometime. It looks like there might be a good number of corals on that rock. And they considered that "base" rock? Wow.

We received the live sand from Richard at Tampbaysaltwater.com on a May 22nd, then the first batch of rock on the 28th. Before the first rock came in, we had spiked ammonia. Rock went in Thursday May 28, and by June 2nd had cycled completely. The final rock is coming tomorrow or Wednesday.

Please take some pics of the new rock coming in, and create a list of all the hitchhikers that you find in the new batch this week. I would love to see the pics and the list later this week of what comes in. Kinda exciting.

You won't have to wait long because it is coming today. :) We should have pics ready by tomorrow. I can't wait to see what we get. Seroiusly, we better not get an octopus...LOL.

THE ROCK ARRIVED!!!!

Richard at Tampa Bay Saltwater outdid himself again. I have never seen so many "goodies" and surprises. He are some pics to get you update. I appologize up front that some of their quality are not the greatest, but hopefully you get the picture...pun intended.

We set up an RO dip can in front of the salt water holding tank so we could do a quick dip, then all the rock went strait into the pre made saltwater so we could take our time with looking the rock over and finding the best place for it
