Baby purple carpet

I don't really have room for another anemone, but I couldn't pass this one up. When I first saw it I assumed it was a gigantea because it had a green base. I didn't check for colored verrucae. The packing slip said gigantea as well. Now that I have it home, it may be a haddoni. Time will tell. I was surprised that it ate a small piece of fish today (I got it yesterday). It is about the size of a medium sized Florida ricordia.

FWIW: I put the rock that it is on in the acclimation bucket with the anemone and the anemone attached. Transfering the rock and the anemone into the tank makes things a lot easier. You don't have to worry so much about the anemone blowing around the tank.

On its new rock. The zoas in the foreground give a bit of a size comparison.

Not to be nosey, but I would like to know where you purchased him and if you see them there regularly? Reef Hot Spot has said out of stock for a year and thats the only place I can see one.
I can tell you every site that sells acro frags and clams and what they have in stock on any given day, but now that I've been wanting a blue/purple carpet I don't know where to look.

I have a standing order with three wholesellers and every week I get the same thing..nothing..I blame the cali cherry pickers lol :P

To be quite honest, I do have the opportunity to buy from a couple of the local wholesalers, but almost all of my anemones have come from several of my LFSs, most of whom tranship their own livestock. There have been some colored carpets coming in, but most have been in very bad shape.

I am very lucky to be in an area where there are a lot of high volume LFSs that have the ability to bring in some great stuff.

Most of the big wholesalers are making it very difficult to cherry pick these days with high minimum purchases and only selling to people with a storefront.

I actually meant cali LFSs picking over stuff before it can get shipped around the country, not so much blaming it on you personally. I just noticed that you mentioned a packing slip, so I figured you got it online, from a site that may have them in regularly, where I could buy one retail for my home tank.

We don't tranship, which sucks, but we don't have room for 400 new corals at a time...well we do, but we would have to have a major clearence first lol.

I know that is the perception, but when I go to the wholesalers there are usually signs or special tanks with all the really nice stuff that is being shipped to their big accounts back East. :)

What it comes down to is being lucky and in the right place at the right time, or in your case, being on the phone with the right guy at the right time. Really nice stuff doesn't come in that often and most the wholesalers like to see the unusual stuff going to their big accounts. The salesmen are becoming very proactive and when nice items come in, they get on the phone to the guys that do a lot of volume, most of the time before the locals even get a chance to see it.

Awsome carpet Phil! I would've picked up that nice specimen as well if I saw it in the store. I'm wondering if it's at the store we both go to. btw i picked up a nice purple monti from there last week. =)

do you see any small red carpets? I'm still looking for one to add to my tank!

Awesome anemone! I think it's a Haddoni as well. I hope you keep us posted on its condition.

Man, you always get the coolest stuff.

It hasn't really changed much in 4 days. :)
He is having a little trouble figuring out where he wants to be. It traded in a purple sebae that was in that tank today and put him in the empty space, so I hope he finds it meets his needs.
I had been planning to trade in the sebae even before I got the carpet, so it worked out OK.

The sebae now resides in a LFS display owned by one our own RC moderators. :D
