beer thread

Walter- Where are you purchasing your brewing ingredients? We need a good LHBS in ROC. We haven't had one (IMO) since Cottage Brewing closed down years ago.

A bit from Beers of the world and Sunset, but mostly bulk now either from club group buys or a guy up in Greece that gets bulk 55# sack deliveries. Midwest Supplies, Northern Brewer, Farmhouse Brewing, and a few others are pretty decent for kits and ingredients.

Check your pm's too.

I wouldn't call this spoiled, I've been on the hopper all morning AND I've got a bachelor party tonight. I haven't done a back to backer in well over a year. My liver will most assuredly be on strike in the am. Thank God for access to prescription nausea medications.

It's official. The WORST kind of beer is Free Beer.

As predicted I have a clutch cargo awful hangover today. I just took a shower and promplty changed into clean(er) PJs. I have a call in to the local visiting nurses. I have requested the "Angel of Mercy" package. So I'm currently waiting for some loner Buffalo Bill androgenous weirdo male nurse to show up and smother me with my own couch pillows. But while I wait, I'm playing a little game of "What's that smell?"

I hate myself and FREE BEER!

Unlike Trix, it's not just for kids anymore...

my buddy's brother owns the Gardner Ale house, (MA) Brew Pub

I got a growler of this double IPA and it's dee-lish

*Face-off Double IPA (9.5%alc./vol.): Absolutely smashing IPA with loads of American hops and made with a typical American ale yeast. You will maybe be amazed at the equal balance between hop and malt, wrestling to see who wins. Absent from this double is that very grassy, in-your-face hoppiness that makes some doubles difficult to quaf. Truly a comfortable and remarkable face adjuster.

Has anyone else heard of this microbrewery?

Ithaca Casca Zilla. A "red ale" actually quite Hoppy and enjoyable. I typically don't like red beers, but I give this one a thumbs up from my taste buds.

IMO, if you were to blind taste-test Cascazilla, you'd think it was a pale ale. I enjoy that one myself.

Has anyone one tried Russian River's Pliny The Elder? I have been wanting to try it forever. An old friend that now lives in California just sent me 4 bottles. All I can say is WOW. If you like IPA's and you have the means I suggest you get some!

I've really been hitting the Dogfish Head beer heavy lately (Damn Discovery Channel and their Brewmasters show) I really Like their Raison D'etre.

Is he willing to send more? I've never had it, but have heard it rocks. I've got a recipe I'll be brewing up to have ready for my St. Patty's party and would love to do a head to head with the real thing.

Walter-I'm going to San Francisco in March for a conference. I'm debating checking a bag to bring back some west coast craft brews, Pliny being one of the ones I want to get. If I decide to check a bag, I'll let you know and will take any requests you have.

If not, I'll tell you how it tasted on tap when I get back. :D

this certainly has been an enjoyable thread!

I don't subscribe to any of the brewer's magazines or watch any of the related TV shows but I've learned a lot.
Sierra Nevada Torpedos are delicious but I still like 'Celebration' better. I'm having my first Dogfish Head 60 minute IPA right now and tomorrow night it's dinner at Rohrbach's.

I've never been to Rohrbach's downtown but I'd like to go someday.
