beer thread

Good thread. I want a beer now that ive read all about these different types of beer here. It's funny, after i turned 21, i now refuse to get anything cheaper than blue light. in terms of "cheap" beer, yuengling is my favorite, hands down. i love going to wegmans to check out their microbrewery selection, and i always try something new when i go there. one of the most interesting ones ive had was a chocolate double stout. i cant remember who made it, but it was about 8% alcohol and a pint was about $5. it pretty much tasted like fizzy chocolate milk. delicious! filling, too.

Last Monday we bottled our 3rd batch of homebrew. This time we made a continental pilsner. It is a 2 month conditioning brew , looking forward to trying it when it grows up.
The one before that was a Scottish 60 schilling ale , came out very nice, going to do a smoked Porter in the next couple weeks..

I'm surprised how many people around here brew their own beer.
Anyways- I don't. I just like to taste it :)

My recent fav is Sam Adams Oktoberfest but I can't find it anymore. I'll admit that my search has been limited to the grocery stores in my immediate area. Are there places that might carry Sam's Oktoberfest year 'round or is it truly just a seasonal offering?
great thread if I say so myself!

Sam Adams Octoberfest is available again and (in fact) I'm enjoying one right now

Thanks to this thread I've enjoyed MANY different brews.
Keep up the good research!

Has anyone tried anything from the switchback brewing company in Burlington Vt? I was there a couple weekends ago visiting some family and they all said I had to try it. very good stuff! I actually ended up drinking it all weekend knowing I couldnt get it once I came home because they dont even bottle. Just kegs for bars and restaurants so far. I went on a tour of the brewery and the owner said that he has plans for the next year or so to do some bottling. If any of you are in Vermont anytime soon I really suggest you try a pint of their pale ale.

Here's little Prezi slideshow I put together documenting today's brew session. Hopefully, it'll show how easy it is to make your own great tasting beer!

Seems a lot of Octoberfest beer lovers here...I just tried Great Lakes Octoberfest offering and I feel it might be my favorite Octoberfest.

I am an IPA lover myself. Lagunitas IPA and Lagunitas Little Sumpin' Sumpin' ale are dynamite and are available at Wegman's and Consumers. Awesome brewery out of California.

alright

alright

what's going on?

One day Sam Adams Octoberfest is available almost everywhere and today it's gone!

The distributor must have taken back the Octoberfest when it set out Sam's 'Winter Lager'. Does anybody know if this is the case?

If so..... what do they do with all of the leftover Sam Octoberfest?

I'm really bummed right now. Winter Lager is okay but it's definitely not Octoberfest.

I used to love that stuff Gary! I would always stock up when it first came available, knowing full well, it would disappear as quickly as it showed up. As to what they do with the overstock......who knows. Enjoy it while it lasts. Plenty of other tasty options to get you through the other 11 months of the year, should you choose to shy away from Labatts Blue Light.

Being an avid home brewer and a big fan of Sam Adams, yes, once Winter Lager is released, Octoberfest should be gone. They produce this beer somewhere 4months ahead of release if not longer to give it the proper aging. I know i let all my home brew age for 3 to 5months for optimal taste. So looks like you will have to wait till next fall to get more. As for me i am glad winter lager is being released here, as it is my favorite and have almost perfected a clone!! When you get a chance try Lattitude 48 by Sam. Its a good Hoppy Beer.

thanks for the replies.
IMO Sam Octoberfest should be made available year 'round :)
I don't mind Labatt's Blue but I shy away from Blue Light, even though it's not bad considering it's a light beer.
