beer thread

I get a chuckle out of some of the things Magic Hat prints under the cap; one that I got a big laugh from was "condoms prevent mini vans"

That's all I've ever seen it in locally. (Although, I don't get out much.)
I don't get out much nowadays either but I now know of a Wegman's in Rochester that sells Sierra Nevada 'Celebration' in 12's :)

Meanwhile... I broke down today and purchased 4 new tulip glasses and 64 fl oz. of "homebrew"... Rohrbock's Scotch Ale. All of the above in a certain Rochester area Wegmans.

Go Buffalo!

this week's pick:

this week's pick:

Buffalo over Minnesota... and Sam IPA 48.

Hoppier beers take some getting used to but it's even more difficult to go back the other way. The proper beer glass is turning out to be a big deal, too.

does else anyone know what I mean?

I'm with ya Gar. The Latitude 48 is really nice. I love hops. The hoppier the better IMO. Though they can be a bit rough on the tummy at times.

I enjoy my hops, but have a real appreciation for a well-balanced beer that manages to compliment the hops with a good malt backbone.

You're right about a good glass to savor the hop nose on these hop-forward beers you've been enjoying.

Tonight's brew, my house pale ale. Very quaffable and a crowd pleaser:

Kegging a stout tomorrow and brewing a Kona Fire Rock clone on Sunday.

Just got done with an impromptu tasting. Dogfish 120 BRUTAL!!!! Dogfish 90 pretty rough. Rougue Porter pretty horrid. More like a Scotch ale.

Enjoyed Smuttynose IPA. Longtrail IPA, so so.

Thought I'd step out of my comfort zone a little, broaden my horizons. Head is in a vice and stomach is in a knot this am.

caught the brewmaster episode where they dumped a half mil's worth of 120 down the drain. don't see myself shelling out $12 for 12oz

It is nothing like an IPA in my opinion. It is so strong, all you smell is alcohol when you go to sip it. And, it's WAY too sweet for my liking.

I did catch that episode. Tough decision. But interesting to see where business and philosophy mix. A bit refreshing that they are not just about makin a buck. Basically a bunch of hippies.

I do really like their 60 minute IPA and some of their specialty beers.

I wouldn't call this spoiled, I've been on the hopper all morning AND I've got a bachelor party tonight. I haven't done a back to backer in well over a year. My liver will most assuredly be on strike in the am. Thank God for access to prescription nausea medications.

The boyfriend and I just polished off a 12 pack winter seasonal mixer by Otter Creek....the Alpine Black IPA was delicious, and their Stovepipe Porter is always fantastic!

The 90 is a personal favorite! Definate hop head ;)

I recommend the Old Man Winter from Southern Teir, if you stop by Wegmans, its on sale this week!!

WUS!!!

Top that 120 off with a World Wide Stout and make yourself a Heaven & Hell Black & Tan Dogfish style. One of the craziest drinks I've ever had in terms of flavor and complexity.

I've got some 2 year old 120 that I've been taking one a year of to see how it matures. Hops are dying out, but some of the maltiness is mellowing and becoming more complex as well.

The Blue Moon seasonal brews have come out and are so-so, but so has their Grand Cru, which was fabulous, over priced, and even better after 6 months in the basement. Got two half off at the end of last year that I'll be cracking open shortly to see how it's matured.

I've had Old Speckled Hen before out of the bottle and wasn't impressed, but for the first time a few weeks ago I had it in the pub can with nitro and it was FABULOUS!! nice and smooth, thanks to the nitro, and just all around good pub style red.

Stone Russian Imperial Stout in the fermenter right now finishing up that should come in just below the 10% ABV target that I can't wait to get a taste of. Bottled a Saison and Belgian Trippel a few weeks ago that turned out great and also have a Belgian Pale ale that needs to go into the keg.
