"Best of" FO's (since we don't get TOTM's)

I would love to see pics of some old school tanks w/dead coral skeletons, u/g filtration, etc. I still can't believe I didn't take any pics of mine back in the day.

Old thread but it seems hard to believe there are no more nice FOWLR's out there...........

I guess is depends on what you consider to be nice. I've seen quite a few nice FOWLRs in this forum recently, and happen to like my own just as well. :)

Bring it back!

Bring it back!

Alright everyone, keep this thing going! I'm currently in the process of setting up my first saltwater (125g) and it will be a FOWLR. I LOVE seeing my potential options on this thread. Keep it going! Show me more!

Here is mine

Wow.

Almost 9 years in the making and this thread is still running. How life has changed in that time. It would be great to see how old set-ups have fared over time, and what new set-ups have entered the seen.

I vaguely recall at the time when people chastised me and others for wanting a queen angel in a 240, saying it wasn't large enough; to which I replied "in the time it takes for a 2 inch queen to reach and exceed 10 inches, a lot changes in life; people change jobs, move home, get married or divorced, have kids, move home; there is no telling what will happen in life so if you can properly care for a species for the foreseeable future, which is 2-3 years or 5 years at most, then go for it!".

Ironically, all those things have happened in my life, but my hobby has continued; the 240 I set up at the time of starting this thread still exists, but sadly it is empty and dry! I now live in a different country (Ireland to Thailand), have had a 150gal in the interim, and now have a 90 gal rimless mixed reef!

Awsome story, experience.

I myself have moved between Japan, Taiwan and USA multiple times.

How is the hobby in Thailand. Are fish more readily obtainable, cheaper there?

Naraku - hobby is ok in Thailand. Lot's of cheap equipment available (Chinese copies). Live stock that is collected from the waters around Thailand is quite cheap, but imported livestock is relatively expensive - probably the same as western world.

lpsouth - impressive list of fish. Seems a lot. looking forward to pics :-)
