"Best of" FO's (since we don't get TOTM's)

I'm curious how you guys afford to feed your FOs. Do you primarily buy clams/shrimp from grocery stores and make your own fish food?

It's been a while since I had a proper FO with big fish, but in short - yes.

I would buy mixed seafood. As much variety as possible, include shellfish / crab / fish / shrimp / squid. Using a sharp knife and some patience, chop it into biteach size chunks. Rinse well through a sieve or colander then Pat dry with kitchen paper.

Put in a bowl and soak with selcon or some supplement.

I like to chop up nori to bite sized pieces, and fold into the meat mix. Then put it in plastic food bags, flatten it into a slab 0.25-.05" thick, and freeze.

Some people add fish eggs etc. but bigger fish chase the bigger chunks and most the fine stuff just ends up going to waste.

I still like to feed a good quality dried food.

1. Then an auto feeder can be used during holidays.
2. It ensures a balanced diet, such as sponge content for angels etc.

Old thread, but very interesting to me. Finally decided to take the plunge into a "fish only" but with some softies. Shrooms mainly. I too would like to see some more...there has to be others.

I do have one question...I saw a Kidako eel available so grabbed it...kind of an impulse buy, but couldn't resist. I've got a quarantine set up and understand you can't medicate an eel and he will be in there for a few months for observation. If during that time, I decide he isn't a good fit for the 750, then he will get his own tank.

Any of you do fish only with this particular eel? From what I've read, they're not seen too often in the trade.

Kidakos enjoy eating fish, not a great choice for a fowlr.

Well, I got the eel and he is a little guy. As in the size of a very large night crawler. Still very cool though. And I feel very lucky to have gotten him. Super outgoing and not scared of anything. I wiped the glass down right after putting him in and he swam right up to my hand. So I tried feeding him a small Krill about half hour after putting him in the QT with a skewer. He just got ****ed and pushed it away. He's already got an attitude. Kinda makes me nervous for when he gets big.

Might end up doing something like a 180 and dedicate to Morays.
Anybody have an EOWLR tank?

I have an EOWLR, it's 72x24x24 with a huge sump with a Bubble King skimmer.
Lots and lots of LR so there are caves and holes everywhere for the eel to swim in and out of. The eel is a Japanese Dragon Eel, got him about two years ago at 24" and now he is about 32". There is a Yellow Tang in the tank with him with no problems so far. Like to add another eel but I think he will be too aggressive towards it so I'm not.

Fowlr fish recimendations please

Fowlr fish recimendations please

Well established 100g + 25g sump with large skimmer & lots of live rock.

Starting with 4 dwarf lions. Looking for the coolest fish to add for my grandchildrens enjoyment.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

THANK YOU,
Ed
