Big news for angelfish fans of RCT

Well that is good news as a pair of interruptus is gonna clean out the bank!

Money is made to be spent... when you're on your death bed you won;t have a memory of money... but you will of your interrupta... if you don't get them you'll be on that deathbed thinking... "I should have gotten those interrupta!" :D

For inspiration here are a few of mine... this was the wild male interrupta that retired in my basement that fathered all of the CB individuals...

And junior, one of the CB babies... first as a female...

The same fish as a male in my reef...

I would like to see captive breed Centropyge venustus not as exotic as others named but one of my favorites; I tried to pair up mine twice without luck.
I can see a long wait list but I will be in line for the Centropyge interrupta or Centropyge debelius. This is big news might have to tap the home equity or not send the kids to college LOL.

The only way we'll see captive venusta is if they contribute half their genetics... this was the pair of debelius I received... as shortlived as it was... just two of ten raised by Frank...

Saw them with Frank when I was in Hawaii a few years ago... got back and had a display prepped and ready... got the box from the airlines in DC and it was in horrible shape despite being packed well... I watched the pair die over the course of six hours in the display... absolutely heartbreaking for an historic and irreplaceable pair of fish... just sucked...

On the bright side I've had Frank's wild pair of Fijian Centropyge colini that he successfully spawned for years now and they continue to spawn nightly to this day...

So John, when are you going to quit your day job to raise the fry these fish are/will produce?!?! If you need more space than you have in your basement I'll pay the rent on a warehouse, we'd just have to figure out how to split the proceeds!

P.S. - I accept payment in fish!

I'd also need to quit my wife and family, get rid of my other fish and corals, move to somewhere tropical on the water, and dedicate years of my life to it as Frank has before getting anywhere...

I'll keep my day job... were it not for that taking me to Hawaii every year I would have never grown so close to Frank in the first place... :)

Boy, I think I may have to start warming the wife up to the idea of a tank for when we move to Hawaii next year, I promised no tanks in the apt. . . but things change :C)

(I can hear it now: "honey think of the cost savings on shipping! It is like stealing these fish!")

Sorry I don't know how to use the "quote" option so I'm doing it manually....

"Karen is not only the SECOND person in the world to successfully spawn and raise CB angelfish, ironically just months after Frank and completely independently,"

Just wanted to remind everyone that Martn Moe raised angels in the 1970s so Frank and I are actually second and third. (Hopefully nobody else has raised angels or I'll be pushed back to fourth place ). Martin is my all time larval rearing hero and his work built the foundation for my larval rearing today. His more recent work with diadema is also huge!
I hope I can keep at it the way he has.

copps.... Great pic of the family!! Do they like the fish as much as you?

My wife does not... fortunately or I'd probably be living underwater... the kids... so far so good! They better like fish or they'll have a rough upbringing... :)

Karen!!!! Welcome rock star! Martin Moe has done amazing things and contributed greatly to our hobby, but remember Martin's fish did not spawn in captivity... he strip spawned them and mixed the sperm and eggs together... Martin was the first to captively RAISE angelfish, but Frank and you were the first to captively spawn and raise angelfish... don't sell yourself short! :fun4:

Sweet :D

Nice family, John :) I was just wondering how that was going with Frank Baensch and the Centropyge breeding, how awesome to run across this thread since I've been away from this forum for awhile. Thanks for the update - can't wait for more info!

Austin, I've always felt that way... when I was about 14 or 15 I remember going shopping with my father, and seeing a tie I loved that cost $30. That was a lot at that age, and I remember asking my father and expecting an answer saying it was too expensive. I really liked the tie, but there were others for cheaper. My father said if you really like that one get it, rather than spend $15 or $20 on one you don't. I got so much enjoyment out of that tie and have it to this day. I am the same way with fish now. I get so much enjoyment out of my fish... I do not mind paying for it. After this many years in the hobby most of the fish that excite me cost a significant amount, but I do not mind it as I get so much enjoyment from them. So many people say, "Aren't you worried about them dieing?" I always say that our fish may die but our memories live forever! You are not just purchasing a fish... you are purchasing an experience and a memory! (read my signature!)

Marie, thank you! As much as I love my fish, family comes first!

Anyone reading this far into this thread will also be happy to see what new RC user paka (Karen Brittain) who just posted in this thread has been up to... another insanely talented fish breeder on the island of Oahu!

I can't imagine the size of tank that would be needed to captive spawn French Angels would have to be huge public aquarium size I imagine first we need a tank big enough for 2 fish that are around 4 pounds and 15-18" then we need enough water column for them to make a spawning run which I imagine would be around at least 8 feet or so.

Hey John Nice argyle shirt---- yikes U ARE BANNED. No real tropical island guy would be caught dead with that one.

As far as the fish well always impressive.

That is funny. We have been hassling John about how he is the only one that looks good in the pic. We were just hanging out at Karen's having pizza and beer and we weren't expecting a photo shoot.

Both DJ and Karen were saying they wished they had on different clothes for the pic. I wish I lost 20 pounds for the pic. haaaa

We look like a motley bunch.
