Black 'Onyx' Perculas: Who has coloration like Rod's???

DeathWish302

Clown Hoarder
Due to my search of a pair of A. Nigripe clowns coming shorthanded and A. Omanensis are impossible to get, I've decided that a pair or Black Onyx Perculas will have to suffice. I might be looking for a couple Black Onyx Perculas' to start breeding in the near future. Does Inland Aquatics and similar vendors have the same coloration (especially a completely black dorsal fin) as Rod's clowns? I know each fish is different and you won't know until around 12-18 months if that coloration will occur.

Just wondered about others' experiences with coloration from any other broodstock besides Rod's.

Thanks

I don't know about colorations of other peoples' onyx clowns, but I known Rod usually will ship to individual people, so you could order them directly from him if you wanted to. They're great fish

I thought he quite selling retail and only did wholesale orders due to the increase production demands of his frozen food? I've looked at Premium Aquatics, but 1/4-1/2" babies are quite a gamble for shipping. I just can't believe C-Quest, Rod & Inland Aquatics are the only breeders with that coloration. I did receive a PM with another private breeder, but only one other? Premium has some other 'onyx' clowns, but they have do not have near the coloration of those from Inland, Rod or C-Quest.

Still on the hunt for the best of the best before I shell out $100-200 for a pair....

Premium Aquatics retails the fish. Inland Aquatics, ORA, C-Quest & likely ProAquatix all have breeding stock for wholesale release only. There are the odd aquarist breeder. That's the target group I was looking for with excellent coloration lines.

My pair are WC SI percs, the dorsal fin was black on both of them when I got them,

But, now 5 months later, the dorsal is starting to get orange on it. Not sure if it is because they are being hosted (( only took 6 days, so not long enough for it to start to fade )), or something else. They are otherwise healthy,

The female has lost more,

I would suggest to go with true perculas from Solomon Island. I think they have dark color patterns just like the onyx in my opinion

That's what Onyx clowns are - percs from the Solomon Islands (originally)
