Black & white percs

I have two Australian tank raised black and white percs. However, they are more like black with orange tint with orange noses/mouths. They are young, I think one just turned from a juvenile to female and the other to a male. Will they become solid black over time or is this as dark as they will get?

Should darken up if they are young. Need a picture to tell. The australian black and whites that I have seen are almost all black when they are pretty young. More orange usually means a lesser quality of black and white clown, but babies are orange.

I got them at Aquacon. They had them labeled as tank raised percs so I assumed they were percs. Is there no such variants among percs?

Here is a picture of them. The picture is a bit misleading, it is the wife's camera so not sure how to get the color right. The red circle on the tail is what color they are when I see them in the tank.

The female (with the incomplete middle stripe) was originally the same size as the male. She has been steadily growing in size for the last two weeks. Some else odd is she seems to be doing a lot of picking around the anemone and at the anemone. The male seems oblivious of the anemone and does not seem to be trying to homestead anywhere. Is this normal? I thought the male did all the cleaning trying to attract the female.

Are there black and white picasso clowns? I guess they would cost a fortune. :p

yep, no such thing as a black and white perc. theyre commonly mislabeled. the closest thing to a black and white perc is an onyx and they still have considerable amounts of orange. yours are ocellaris and as they age they will turn all black. they are born orange

In a year or so, they'll look like this.

Awesome. Well, either way the wife has trumped my vote. She thinks the slight orange gives them personality. Now I wish they would bond to the anemone instead of the powerhead.

Just great, my last maroon clown cost about $500 from all fish she made to carpet surf. The 14BC is all theirs so that should minimize any issues. Thanks for the warning.

Ive had a couple pairs, and traded them. Both pairs were aggressive, and never really were hosted by anything in my tank.

Maybe they are pickier than regular clowns. They would pick at the BTA. I wonder if they are chasing it into the cave.

"Black & Whites are famous for being aggressive.... "

They are not aggressive. They may be slightly more aggressive than regular orange ones but I wouldn't call them aggressive. They are still one of the more peaceful clowns. They also host the same as a regular Ocellaris. Some do some don't...

I thought all clowns were mostly aggressive. Seems like about every kind attack their owners as they get older.
:D

That's so true.. I have a female Perc that has jumped out of the tank twice while trying to get my hand..
