As the title says, my green carpet anemone has, all of a sudden, lost almost all its colour and shrivelled up! We had a power outage and the next day, both my serpent stars died!
I then noticed that my anemone was not responding when the lights were switched on! So I checked it and found that it had no colour left! There are just a few spots of green here and there but majorly its white!
I believe that the anemone has expelled it's zooxanthellae and possibly due to the increase in the temperature of the water during the power outage. I have two clowns and two blue damsels in the 190 gallon tank! Yes the number of inmates is very low for the size of the tank but I'm fighting an ongoing nitrate issue. So I'm waiting for that settle down! Before anyone tells me that "nitrate is the issue", be warned that the nitrates have been immensely high for the past 8 months n all the inmates have thrived including the anemone!
Anyways coming back to to anemone.. It had settled into a nice crevice and would come out every time I switched on the lights! The crevice was surrounded on the top and two sides and it would move out to the light! But since the bleaching, the anemone never came out towards the light! So I've taken the top rock away and it now has direct light! It has shrivelled up and not opened up to the light, yet!! The lights are 165 w Chinese led x 3 ! Is there anyways to help this animal recover?!?
