Bleached Haddoni Recovery

Flightpipe

Sea Turtles Love Me......
I cannot find my old thread about my bleached green Haddoni so here is a new one with an up date.

Never underestimate the power of T5's or the need to properly acclimate new lights! Old pictures at the worst of the bleaching.

Pretty bad I know I felt so bad for him, but now for the good news he is doing great and looking even better. I used 5 layers of screen for about 5 weeks and cut back my photo period from 9 hours to 3 1/2 hours. increasing by 30 mins per week to this point of a final photo period of about 8 hours.

I think he still has a little more darkening to do but he is nearly back to his old self.

A thanks to Toddrtrex for his and everyone else for their help and advice!

Having recovered a bleached RBTA, I know the kind of love and commitment needed to do so. Congrats on your great accomplishment.

@ Toddrtrex. So this bleaching was caused from not accumulating his anemone to his new T5 lighting ?

Yep, would be surprised how strong they can be, and how sensitive anemones can be to increases in light. Personally I am a fan of using window screening b/t the lights and the tank. I feel that it works better then shortening the photo-period. I look at it this way --- for the first time out in the sun each summer, I can/will get sun burnt even if only out there for an hour (( akin to a shorter photo-period )). But, if I put sunscreen on (( akin to window screening )) I will be okay.

I've got a blue Haddoni that should probably be alot darker. Anyone have the info about the screening, or a thread link? BTW, I too have T-5's. TIA

The search is a bit messed up for everyone right now, so I will have to go off of memory.... I believe that I told "Flightpipe" to use window screening. I prefer to use 3 layers of it, and remove a layer each week. Any Lowe's or Home Depot will have it, just get the fiberglass stuff, should come in a roll. I placed egg-create over the tank to support the window screening.

This is how it ended up looking over my cube (( the light was too long for the tank, the new one hadn't arrived it, but that didn't change anything about the screening. ))
