Bristletooth Tomini Tang - should I add one?

Hello,

I'm looking for some advice...I'm looking to add a Tomini Tang to my 50 gallon rimless cube tank. I realize Tangs typically need a lot of swim room but I've been doing a lot of research and I've learned this is the smallest Tang species (will only get 6 inches fully grown).

What are your thoughts & recommendations?

Cube tanks generally don't have much swim space. Tangs like to pace up and down. And 50g is too small, even for a Tomini.

Are you wanting the tang because you like the look, or because you just want a tang? IMO there are much nicer looking smaller fish than a Tomini tang.

I am wanting to add the Tomini b/c I want a Tang and I do like the look of that particular Tang. If you have other recommendations I'd be open to suggestions.

Here's what is currently in the tank as far as livestock: 1 snowflake clown, 1 black and white clown, 1 royal gramma, and 1 tailspot blenny, sand sifting starfish, and crabs, and a few smaller corals.

Bristletooth tangs typically have relatively slow growth rates, and they're nowhere near as "athletic" as tangs hailing from Acanthurus etc. Zebrasoma and Ctenochaetus tangs are the most well suited to captivity due to their slower growth rates, smaller size at maturity (not including the sailfins), and they're a bit more stationary, in that they don't seem to need as much space as long as they have ample food, adequate shelter sites, and are provided something to graze on. That being said, I wouldn't recommend a zebrasoma tang for a 50g cube. Tominis typically come in small, so I don't think you'd have much an issue. Like the post above me said though ^^^ There are loads of small, fascinating fish available, people just tend to overlook them in favor of big, loudly pigmented angels and tangs.

I would not recommend any tang for that size tank. In that size tank they will become aggressive and stressed out.
