I agree! Now if more companies would start making the pin wheel mods for the Lagunas and drive the price down, I might actually buy one and mod it. $150 for a pin wheel and a hunk of plastic is a blatant rip off.

Its true that they have much cheaper production because living standart is lower and cost and everything is reduced. But also is true that China steals and copies many things, but they copied designs/patents, and often put cheaper parts, not identical. (they can be indentical when some company decides to switch productions to China and require same quality of their products.. but 'made in China' and Chinese product are two different things).
And, 3yrs of warranty is a very nice thing, but it applies only to stationary parts, not the shaft, magnet or needlewheele. Also, pumps, ie, motors lose some of its power with time, and is likely that pump with cheaper parts will weaken more or sooner than some with better parts.
BB might be better if this means that costs less and will give people a good performance as they had before only with much more expensive pumps. That is really good thing and i have no doubt in it at all. Just, i do not think that BB is on same level like askoll/laguna pumps.

Most volutes in the past were machined so that is considerable expense especially when done from pvc stock, but now that there are injection molded volutes/pinwheels the per unit cost is dirt cheap. A lot of money i'm sure went into development and making the mold, but there is no way i'm spending $150 on the volute/pinwheel when i can buy a ready to go pump for not a whole lot more.

I just received my bb3000 and hooked it up to my msx200. so far it seems to be doing much better than my PPW sicce. and no start up issues. I was going to get the askoll but I read on a similar post that I night need to get the extended neck other wise it might be too much pump for the 200 body. My tank is only a moderately stocked 125 and the MSX200 was doing a fine job,-when the damn sicce wants to work of course. I just wanted to get rid of my sicce mainly.
where as the bb3000 was made for/direct replacement for the 200 body. and the $100 less than the askoll is nice too. So my final decision was that it is slightly cheaper than the askoll and has a 3 yr warantee, and it also performs better than the sicce. :uzi::uzi:

I have a bb3000 arriving next week. I'll be hooking it up to my MSX 200. Right now I am running the PPW Sicce which was a huge improvement from the stock and I can't wait to see how it performs with the bb3000. I also have the extended collection cup on the way and will be trying it out with the new combo.

i have been reading along since I am in the market for a new pump for my vertex IN280 and trying to decide between BB5000 or the Askoll. Everybody is talking about the 3 year warranty on the BB pumps but dont the Askoll pumps carry the same warranty? At least that is what I was told when I called Marine Solutions and ask about the Askolls.

Either of those pumps would be great. I have heard excellent things about Askolls, and I am interested in seeing what the bb5000 will do. Let us know when you get your new pump.

I don't know why people are getting all over china made products. Many are US owned companies that moved there to save money. They don't have the overhead of health-care etc. to worry about. Sure there is lots of junk in China but that is changing.
I think all these pumps are overpriced for what you get. How does Little giant make $180.00 pumps that run 10 years? These cheap little bubble maker pumps don't last that long and always seem to have long term issues.
I can see why people would want to shy away though. The price on Bubble blaster is not that much less than a tried and true product.
The piece of mind is worth something. Usually the cheap stuff is like 3x less. 225.00 is not that inexpensive. Maybe its really like a 600.00 American made pump. All someone has to do is look at the build quality to give an idea. Have heard people talk about the amount of bubbles but not many have commented on the composition of the motor, pinwheel etc.
A 3 year warranty does not mean its good. They probably have calculated the expected failure rate and cost of production. Its probably included in the price of the pump. Meaning if it had a 90 day warr they could sell it for much less, like 140.00.

As promised, here are pics of my MSX BB3000 mod. I definitely notice a huge improvement. The BB is huge compared to the Sicce. Powers up each time without fail, and operates much quieter. While I don't have a Dwyer meter to measure the actual numbers, it definitely sounds like it is sucking in more air. Attached are pics of the pump comparison, bubble size, and a 24 hour pic. Once this gets broken in I will post some more pics.

Looks like the one on SWC site. Looks like the skimmer is kicking arse. I wonder how the bb5000 would do on the 200 with ext neck? JPat, how does the body look, is there more room for air in there? Do you have the bubble plate installed in your skimmer? I took mine out and noticed a lil increase in performance. Just a thought. Congrats on one heck of an upgrade. :thumbsup:

Thanks! I think the 5000 might be overkill, the 3000 is really got the body filled up nicely. Thanks for the tip on the bubble plate. I might try taking that out this afternoon.
