Bubble King & "Mini" Bubble King Skimmers Coming Soon - New Lower Pricing!

I always thought a 6" diameter mini BK would be cool too, er rather, a nano-bk. The thing is, you cant make it too small, or its not really going to even perform like a BK, or benefit from being one...

Still, its what got me interested in these buggers...

Aint it just the cutest?

Now I know what you are thinking... there goes hahn, posting something on an ATB skimmer... sorry. Its not that... it is exactly what he was talking about. It would be cool if Klaus made a nano-line... the only problem is that Askoll doesnt make a pump in that line that is small enough. I have actually been thinking about it though... a 5-6" diameter, 16-18" tall version of the BK minis would be kind of cool. Askoll doesnt make the 'usual' Red Dragon motor block that is small enough, but the Aquaclear 802 can be 'Pimped' like Klaus's Red Dragons for 350-500lph. Add on a 4" diameter bubble-plate, and there you go. I was actually putting one together... like a 1/2 scale model of the mini line... to have some fun, and finally find a use for the 'pimped' Aquaclear 802.

The thing is... how much would you be willing to pay? Something tells me Klaus would have to charge at least $500 for it. Would you want to pay $500 for a nano-skimmer? Thats a pretty hard sell. The larger skimmers appeal to a different economic bracket, since people with huge reefs often arent as concerned about the cost as people with nano-reefs. People with nanos usually keep it small because of money. I know there are exceptions, and many who have truly amazing nano-tanks worthy of bonzaidom... but overall, its just a different market.

Then you may want to get the 200. I am running a 180, even though right now a 160 would easily handle my system, for that very same reason.

I have been very pleased with this skimmer, its very quiet, super easy to clean and VERY well made. One thing to keep in mind, the water level around the skimmer needs to be constant and stable. Its been pulling very consistently. Here are some pics from tonight:

Hi Coralfreak,

Can you tell me how many days worth of skimmate is in the collection cup in your photos? I have just tried the grease idea and it seams to be helping my skimmer. The skimate coloration is about the same as what you have in you photos now, but I have only about 1/4" in the collection cup after 2 days. Also where have you got the water level set inside the skimmer? I am not sure looking at the photos but possible just a fraction above the black line??????

Thanks

Christopher

okay I can place it where the old skimmer is. I have enough space for the 200 series.
the water level is about 91/2 inches.
The only problem thats where i have my auto top off at. It varies less then 1/4 inch do you think that will be a problem? My life reef works fine.

Thanks for the order! We'll get the skimmer right out the door as soon as they get back in stock. Enjoy the new BK! :)

Thats maybe 4-5 days, keep in mind my display tank is only 60 gallons, and not all that heavily stocked, I only feed once a day. Its doing just as well as my previous Deltec AP600, maybe even a little better. The water level is just a hair above the black line.

I also tried the grease thing, at first I really didnt think this would make much difference, performance wise, but I am not so sure. I just did that one day prior to the pic.

Thanks for the reply. It seams I still have a water level problem as it is set about half way up the neck of the skimmer. If I have it set lower the foam seams to get stuck at the flange.

How much grease did you use? I only put a light coat on the outside/top of the skimmer neck(1 inch) and the inside of the flange maybe that's part of the problem. I'll try putting it onto most of the lid as well and make it a thicker coat and see if that makes a change to the performance.

As far as my tank goes it is 120 gallon with 13 small to med fish and it is only fed 1 time per day with 2 cubes of frozen food. So there should be more stuff to pull out then what I am getting I think.

I didnt use very much, should only take a light coating. Be careful not to use to much, if any should fall back into the neck it would really crash the foam. Is the water level around the skimmer stable? How deep is it?

Oh well, I guess that explains why it isn't foaming anymore.:( I will wipe the lid down again and wait for it to start to really build up again.

The sump has an auto top up system attached now. That made a big difference, even though the water drop in the sump was only about 1/4 inch.

The water level in the sump is set at 10 inches. It should be fine at that level.

Did they arrive yet??? I am like a little kid waiting for a new toy SORRY

I have decided to wait for the new aquamarine's to come out and buy one. Now these will have the metal mesh and DC pumps?
Look forward to try one out.

I am contemplating a BK 160 but am worried that it will not fit into my sump.

Height is not problem. Just worried about the body.

The stated dimensions on the base is 80mm X 80mm. But what about the upright pipework and the pump?

From what I can see from the photos posted, it looks as though the pump intakes protrudes out a bit as well.

Can someone with a 160 please do a few measurements for me?

1. Total width of the skimmer including vertical pipework
2. Width the other way including the pump inlet.

Can you please post the figures in mm as well. :D

Thanks

Another thing about this skimmer..the more you clean it out..the more it's gonna perform. I'm cleaning out my skimmer every two days now. I've seen that once the skimmer..raiser tube..get's dirty..the skimmer slows down.

It's crazy, once I clean it (with only hot water and my bare hands), it starts skimming like crazy !

huh?

I doubt that the DC motors will come stock on the supermarines. Probably more like an upgrade option.
