To be honest I never heard of this, but the fix is very easy.
This could be fixed easily with Cyanoacrylate Glue, make sure you clean & dry both surfaces before applying the Glue.

Hello-

I'm contemplating replacing my EuroReef CS8-2 from 2002 (having issues) with a BK Mini Gen2.

Opinions on the following are greatly appreciated:

1) Will the BK outperform the ER significantly?
2) Is the BK 160, 180 or 200 the best size for a 120g SPS tank with med/heavy bioload.

I think you would see a pretty good size performance gain. Take a look at either the 160 or the 180. The 200 is more than what you need, although if you do want to oversize for a future upgrade it would still perform on that size system.

I second Jeremy, you def won't regret going to the BK. I went from a ER8-3 to a SM250 on a 180 (lot of fish) and OMG I could actually see a difference in the tank almost immediately.

Is it possible to hook up ozone to a bk mini 180? The only info I can find is that the newer models have a built in adapter for ozone. I don't have that.

Reeftivo - A Mini 160 would be just fine on a 50gal system. You could run it on a much bigger setup, but it will perform just fine for you on that volume.

ReefiusMaxiumus - You can run ozone on the Gen 1 Mini 180, you just need to put it through the venturi line.

Well this is my 2nd attempt at a BK the first one was a mini 200 Gen 2 on a 150 gal with a 30 gal sump. sold it after 30 days just didnt think it was doing a good job. then went to a Deltec AP851 had that love the skimmer, a friend of mine was selling a BK SM 250 less then 2 months old if that its the newest version and it was used to cure some dry rock. I got it for $1000. wicked deal too. now I have been watching the skimmer its not pulling like the Deltec was. i cleaned it out in vineger and water really good. Should it be given a another break in period for the skimmer. I would really hate to go back to the Deltec, actually I cant its all packed up ready to ship since I sold it, HELP BK user's help me find the light again.

its in 8-9" of water.
I'm running Marin Fauna phosban.
I feed cyclopeeze and flake food.
to my LPS.
NOw with that being sais some times i will get a god foam and then its gone to like just water water has that boiling waer effect.

An SM250 is way too big for a 150gal tank. That would be like running a Deltec AP702 or AP703 on a 150gal tank, it's just not sized correctly. I would recommend using a Mini 180, Alpha 170, or Super Marin 200 on your size system.

Having said that, since you've already got it try running the water level right at 9", and don't let the water level fluctuate at all. Try the venturi at 2 turns out, and set the internal water level of the skimmer about 1" under the collection cup bottom. Let it run like this for 1.5 - 2 weeks without touching the skimmer, no adjustments. HTH!

Thanks But i feel like a ******* i was looking at the skimmer down stairs and notice the red nozzle on the skimmer Duh with the 2 dots OMG. so i turned it out 3 turns from the end since it was tightens up all the way i opened the red cap all the way and holy crap. It was like the skimmer overflowing.

I do have a huge bioload in the tank thou 23 fish. If you look back to the start of this thread where it split my post is there. so the red nozzle does what again

The one on the pump I assume?
Think of it as a waterflow opening. The more you open it up the more waterflow you get in. So closed (All the way in) It will let in the least amt of water. When you open it up it will let in more water changing the water height in the skimmer, and increase the water thruput rate of the skimmer.
You should let the skimmer break in more, By feeding cyclopeeze your killing you skimmate production. I would hold off till you have been running it for 6-8 weeks. After that the cyclopeeze will still break down the foam head, But at a much shorter time. Try not to use fatty frozen foods while in break in.
If you have to use cyclops use a freeze dried product.
While new/er the fatty foods can kill skimmate production from anywhere of 1-3 or more hrs. After its broben in it should take no more than 1/2 an hr.

NEW BK 160!

Hi guys, I just installed a brand new BK 160 in my sump. I run ZV and the skimmer works like a treat. My only issue is noise:
This skimmer has a loud hum while in operation which I can't get rid of, no matter where I place the skimmer in the sump.

Does anyone have an idea on how to address this?

OK - thanks for your views. rubber feet are on the bottom. I will have a look at the pump plate and pump this evening. anything else i should watch out for?

I dismantled and rebuilt the BK160 and the noise has improved a littlebit - but there is still a low tone hum... It is just loud enough to cover the air suction noise.. Please let me know if this is expected or not. Thanks

Tim,

The only thing I could suggest is to send it back to us or Proline Aquatics and have us take a look at it. The skimmer should be extremely quiet, however if this is the only pump running and the room itself is very quiet (no tv on or any other background noise), then you will hear it run.

I was hoping to get some experienced bk owners to chime in.

I purchased a bk internal 300 for a 600 gal total system. I do not want to believe it but the tank really looks better with the skimmer off. Polyp extension is nearly double and growth is way better. I do not think I can run the tank for ever with out a skimmer.

I think possibly it really over skims the tank. If I scrape the glass, immediately it skims out.

Who has a great successful acro tank, long term with bk skimmer?
Possibly I am using it wrong?

I am seriously considering going back to a Etss skimmer.
