With the warmer months upon me I notice I barely spend anytime taking care of the tank. Weekly water changes have become 1-2x a month. Time with my son, yardwork, gym time and possibly just loss of interest. Anyone else have this problem. Feel like I shouldn't have started the solana. Anyone else experience this? I don't want to jump into parting out, but I feel like it's coming.

I agree, last weeks water change was put off until last night, just busy and tired from the long days.

Its funny you mention this just this morning I was thinking the exact same thing man i am getting burned out work play with the little guy yard work etc etc barely leaves room for the tank i kind of wish I stayed small right now. but that being said i know if I ever downgraded winter would come and I would want to get the big tank again I just think its a cycle

Spring can be a bit hectic, and it is nice to go out in the sun. I still love looking at the tank every night :)

To make sure I never feel tied to the tank I have ehiem feeders on both tanks, ato's, and the sps system has an automatic water changer from genesis reef. That coupled with emails from the reefkeeper net module allow me to freely wander off and enjoy the sun.

I know some folks are against automation. A lot of it comes back to personal life. Regardless of season I don't want to feel like the tank is a burdon.

I still check the tanks every day and check levels weekly. Actually enjoy that time:)

Realistically,I wouldn't be able to keep my tank without the help of a controller.Moreso now than ever before.Contemplating moving and out of state trips, maintaining 2 houses as it is,3 daughters in different sport activities and one messy ,hectic work schedule has certainly had its moments.
Auditioned for a band in the winter but thats obviously out as the priority list shrinks. On that note, its a real close contender to reefkeeping but, I just dont have the time to dedicate like the others.Dont see my tank coming down in the very near future, though.

...But, I know what you mean chris.

When I first came to this great country, I commented to my then gf (now wife) that parents over here are slaves to their children. They have to show up for work, and then still have to bring their kids to the numerous sports games or music practice in the evenings. I don't know whether I can do it when the time comes.

They only up side for me in the summer is that tv shows tend to be reruns so I find myself maintaining my tank later at night. But overall I think the tank gets much less attention in the summer. I got an autofeeder and ATO. I clean the skimmer and socks which I think about it and water changes go down fro 2x a week to 3-4 a month.

Don't give up folks!!! I bet your LFS's could help...I'm sure the one's in Buff, Roch and Syr. all have services that could help lighten the load.
