C. meredithi questions

Beautiful fish. I had a question though do you think i can fit 1 meredith in my tank. The measurements of the tank are 48x24x17. The other fish are a fox, a pair of flamebacks, trio of conde wrasses, and a pair of candy hogfish.

My take is no because even a 3" juvie will eventually outgrow your 85g tank unless you will be upgrading. In 2 years my 3" grew to 6-6.25" and they swim a lot..

Hahah, that's how I feel about angels. They're too cool not to have so I'll just keep the corals they decide not to eat.

My butterflies have been WAY more limiting on coral choices than my angels.

SDguy- yes there is plans for an upgrade. The new tank dim will 72*36*22. Thanks for the advice I will just wait until I have my new tank. Thanks.

I actually didn't comment on your tank :)

I don't see anythting wrong with a single meredithi in those dimension. JMO.

Thought I would update. The meredithi are doing great. They get along completely, and the larger one is definitely gaining more blue to the face.

Question: These angels really LOVE to eat algae (they'll bite off the rocks and glass as much as my tangs in my reef)! I don't really like nori since it makes such a mess. What is everyones favorite green/spirulina flake or pellet food/brand?

TIA

I got an enormous tub of OSI spirulina for very cheap once at a store closing, and the fish LOVE it.

Has the tail on one of yours gotten more define with the black or has the black faded out now? Pics?

Well I finally pulled the trigger and picked up a nice 4 1/2 inch meredithi last week. Its in the 60 fuge and is feeding very well on mysis, fortifed brine, angel formula and formula two. Just a beautiful fish, pictures dont do them justice. I will try and get a pic but it is hard to get a good shot in the fuge. Should I try and get a pair going?

I bought 2 about six months apart with both being 3" at the time of purchase 2 years ago for my 180g tank. The larger one (is about 6" now) was chasing the smaller one (about 4.5" now) til about couple of months ago. They don't swim together but the larger one doesn't chase the smaller one like it use to.

The fish has settled in well and is eating everything I put in there. She is also much less shy and is seen a lot more. The display tank is my 180 and that is where she is ultimately headed. I have an established majestic that is about the same size but has been a rather mellow fish and has gotten along with other angels.

How does this species/genus stand up in a confrontation with other angels? I do have a tank divider if needed so after quarantine is over I will introduce her to the display system but any input would be appreciated. TIA

Meredithi can hold their own and know when to run with larger more aggressive angels. Don't worry too much and just observe as you normally with any new additions.

I ended up buying "Spirulina 20" flkaes as they were on sale at the LFS. The fish surprisingly REALLY like them (I say surprisingly because in the past, after not being given flake food for a long time, my fish would normally take a few days to get used to flake food again). Even my large yellow longnose butterfly eats them :eek2:

This pretty much sums up the relationship between the Meredithi and majestic so far. They seemed to have worked out the pecking order and I'm feeling pretty good since the meredithi went in the display on wednesday. There were a few nips and chases but both fish seem to ignore each other more. Your advise was spot on and she is settling in well already. Another great fish from LA, nice and plump, and feeding right away. The packaging was top notch and she came in a huge bag of water. I will try and get some decent pics of this magnificent fish.

It has been almost two months with the meredithi and she is doing quite well. After a week or so she and the majestic settled their diffrences and now get along great, the sailfin tang still flares at her occasionally but I haven't seen a dustup in weeks.

The fish is very bold and has a great personality, always out and about, much more personable than the majestic. She has never bothered any of my other fish, even my passive fish like my dartfish and filefish are fine with her. She feeds on anything and everything and is growing fast. I really do need to get some updated tank pics, the meredithi is such an underrated beauty and they just look amazing up close and personal.

Just wanted to update. My pair is doing well. The male is getting a very defined blue mask "net" (I still don't get why people say "spots" :p ). He is about 7" including tail, now. He seems to be in a growth race with my Heniochus diphreutes!
