C. meredithi questions

Is it strange that I feel as though the fish in my FO swim much more, and faster, than the fish in my reef? At least it seems that way when trying to photograph them

Hey guys,

I read on some sites that Meredithis get to 10" and on other sites like LA it says 1'2"... Which is correct? Also read that females stay a bit shorter... How big do they get and do they reach that max size in captivity??

The false personifer (meredithi) gets to 10" and the true personifer gets larger and will top at at 14". I've never seen a true personifer in a store but a few have turned up for sale online recently. I have read the males are more elongated than the females in meredithi but thay all top out at 10" or so.

Tried to get some pics tonight. Not the greatest color rendition, but you get the idea. You can see the male's nicely developed mask :) What's interesting is that the female has also developed a faint mask... nothing like the monochromatic grey/blue solid sheen I've seen in many pics. The spots are especially visible on the gill cover and behind the eye (though the photos don't captiure it very well).

Very nice. How big is the male now? Looking back on this thread your male was about 5" a year ago. Mine was 6" last April and still looks about the same now.

Thanks. Just a bit over 6" it looks like... though that big yellow tail does a whole optical illusion thing on me

Wow awesome face! I have a True Personifer and I love seeing the difference between the Meredithi and T. Personifer.

i guess with certainty, mine is a female? it was sold as a female. i've read the descriptions, but i cant tell the difference between mine and Peter's. i admit, i dont know much about this particular angel. the right region behind the mask on mine is a thick white?

also, if i were to get a 2nd meredithi, its best to get one a size smaller?

I'd say yes, get a smaller, gray faced individual if you want to pair them.

Great looking Meredithi. Get a smaller specimen to pair.

so what happens if i get another female about 4". will one of them transform into a male?

sorry for the dumb question.

if someone can answer that for me real quick? i need to get back with a supplier.

That was my wishful thinking back in 2008. I got the first one in May 2008 (3" then 6.25" now) and the second one in Oct 2008 (3" then 4.5" now) and nothing yet. But at least the larger one doesn't chase the smaller one around like the first 2 years. So there's hope here.

Since your first one is already 6"+ you stand to find out much quicker than I will. I would go for a 4" to pair. GL!

btw--keep the pictures coming. :)
