C. Prolifera?

Hi everyone,

This type of algae seems to be growing best in my almost-cycled tank for my arriving-soon, 2, h. fuscus females. I have it on the blue light since I know that SHs don't like bright lights and the c. prolifera seems to do well. Anyway, do these make fairly good (strong enough) hitching posts? I also have a synthetic coral with skinny arms, and am trying to figure out what else to add to my SH only tank (for hitching).

Thoughts? :spin3:

Macros are great and also good for harboring pods for snacking. With fake corals make sure they aren't too twisty, but have well separated branches as the horses can get their heads stuck sometimes. I have fake grasses that they like to hitch on. Look up tank pictures because there are a bunch of interesting things people use like plastic chains, tubing, and lots of stuff. You can be creative with it as long as there is nothing in the object that could harm the water or animal.

you don't have to run only blue lamps. SH really don't care much about lighting at all...even MH are tolerated. just make sure there are some dimmer spots if you run bright lighting. one of my SH setups is lit by a 96W power quad and the other is a 70W MH.

as for the prolifera, it will make fine hitching posts. my SH spend most of their time in the macro. the only other hitches in the tank is some Tonga branch LR.

LCP136- how do we know if say, plastic chain bought at the hardware store would be safe for tank? I love this idea, but just wondering about how we know the safety.

Greg- thanks for the ideas about the Tonga branch. I've seen similiar ones in the live rock tubs at the LFS. I'm going to go back today and look for a few more small pieces.

Thanks!!
