Calcium Reactor DIY Session

John

Yes, it can. I have mine set that way. If the temp exceeds the set point by 0.5 degrees the fans come on. If it exceeds the set point by 1.5 degrees the lights go off and the alarm goes on.

But, your Milwaukee controller can control your calcium reactor. Just no bells or whistles (literally).

Sounds like a good use for that Milwaukee. I have been meaning to use it in the CO2 system on my planted FW tank. However the FW tank is running so well I hate to touch it. Now I have a direction for the controller, but I need a new probe for it.

I am putting the AC Jr. on my Christmas list.

The AC Jr. costs around $150. The AC III costs around $400. It has and pH and ORP probe or two pH probes. The AC Jr. only has one pH probe. The AC III also supports expansion units.

The really nice feature about the AC III is that it has a built in web interface. If you have DSL at home you can monitor your tank from anywhere in the world that has internet access.

If you get the AC Jr. then get the model with the serial input. In addition to attaching to your computer to dump log history, you can use as a generic switch.

Before I built my calcium reactor I attached my water level float sensor to my AC serial port. I programmed it to only top the tank off with kalkwasser at night.

Now I use the AC serial port as a leak detector. Just run double lead wires to the locations you might get leaks. The salt water closes the circuit. The AC is programmed to sound the alarm when any of the circuits are closed.

I'm sensing an AC DIY.

I thought of a great analogy.

It is basically an undergravel filter in a bottle.

FYI - the last mod I made to the design was to rotate the pump 90 degrees so the intake attached to the riser instead of the exhaust. That solved a lot of problems.

Do we have a time? A dear friend is in town from Africa, and I want to have a meal with him before he returns home.

Brian,

Do you have room for another person? I would like to attend the session if there's room available.

Peter, I just talked to my boss, and with all the work we have in house right now my he isn't going to let me take the day off, so if you want to take my place, and it's OK with Brian you can take mine..

Thanks, David.

NP, peter...It really sucks because this is one project I've always wanted to do...this and a skimmer...
Any chance someone can take pics of the project as it progresses and either post them here or do a little presentation at a meeting?

Everyone who is planning on building or helping please bring a pair of safety glasses if you have them. We should have plenty so don't go out and buy them if you don't have them.

Hey Guys

I have a little bit of bad news. Two of the acrylic tubes I ordered from Aquatic Eco Systems didn't make it yet. They left Jacksonville on the 28th but there isn't anymore tracking info after that.

We can build three completely. We'll do everything possible on the remaining two. I'll finish them when the tubes arrive.

In other words, you'll get to see how and you get one. A couple will just be delivered a bit late.

Sorry
