Hello, i had a pair of percs but unfortunately lost one. I have come across a pair of gold striped maroons and i wonder if i could add them with the perc.

Tank is 180 gal. The perc hosts in a frogspawn on the far left of tank and i have a rose bubble tip anem on the opposite side. Any advice is appreciated!

My *NOT EXPERT* opinion is yes. Maroons are very territorial and will likely stay close to the RBTA. The perc will hang on his end. Its a big tank. You MIGHT consider putting a divider in the tank for a few days while the GSM find their home in the RBTA.

thanks! maybe i will add them to an acrylic box for a few days to see how the perc reacts.

Has anyone done this successfully?

I was amazed to see someone answer yes....A pair of maroons would kill that perc in the matter of minutes most likely....

I have a pair of maroons and a pair of percs in my 220 with no problems each keep their own side of the tank, the percs host the magfloat and the maroons stay in their GBTA

ahh ... i'm conflicted. Don't know what to do. These maroons are beautiful. What do you think about putting them in an acrylic box for a few days inside the tank, where the perc can see them and they can become used to each other?

I think its a gamble and not very fair to the perc hoping they dont kill him! Just give the perc away or trade it at a LFS for a credit.

If it was me I wouldn't do it. Maroons are mean and could make short work of one lonely perc.

Maroons are Very aggresive.I honsetly dont care how big that tank is.Fish wounder and like to explore their home.Once they discover they can rome with out getting eaten by a shark in the tank they start to wounder and explore more thsn ever!

Just IMO!Ive had people do this and then they get mad because they lose they "beloved" clownfish.Ima just saying not a good idea!

Hey guys, well after doing some research it seems like many people are doing this with success. A quick YouTube search will return some videos of much smaller tanks than mine with maroons and percs coexisting. I know it's a gamble, but here is the approach i will take.

First i will build a large acrylic box to house the Maroons for about a week. It will attach to the the tank wall with magnets. I will move it around different areas of the tank, even close to the perc's "home". Hopefully this gives me an idea of their reaction. Finally i will move the box next to the RBTA for a few days before releasing them. IF there is any scrapping, i already have a buyer in line for whichever species i decide to part with. My tank's aquascaping is minimal with pillars so removal will be much easier. I have successfully caught the perc numerous times in the past. I know some will disagree, but please bear in mind that i have a game-plan and will not let ANY of them suffer. Thoughts?

I dont think its the introduction you have to worry about, or even the first couple months. Its the long term that is the problem. You should be fine at first. But once those maroons get comfy and bold, you may have problems. Especially if they start spawning. They could co-exist peacefully for 8 months and then one day you ll have a dead fish. Just my 2cents.

I had it the other way with two percs and one maroon and eventually the maroon killed both percs. I had them together for about 3 months before it happened. You can't always watch your tank and keep the Maroon away from the Percs. It might last a while but the Maroon will eventually kill the Percs.

OK ... i won't be stubborn. No maroons for me :) My tank is very peaceful now and would hate to stress anyone out. Thanks for all the advice guys!

glad to see that answer. :) You should think about getting another perc to pair up... or even a picasso or something like that.

Maroons are a BAD idea. IMO.

Yes i think i will... she was originally paired but we lost her mate.

How would i go about introducing another. Is it just as simple as adding a smaller true percula?
