Carpet in a system with ich. Worth it?

I have an opportunity to buy a 13inch diameter blue carpet anemone. It's a Haddoni and looks very healthy in pics. The color is great.

The price is about half what they normally go for and it's been in captivity for about one year. I like that aspect because of how many anemones are lost within the first few weeks theyre in captivity. I feel like its a major hurdle that's been overcome already.

The guy selling the carpet is breaking down his tank, and said he had an in infestation aprx 6 weeks ago. Obviously this wouldn't affect the carpet, but would you introduce an anemone that you know was exposed to ich?

Of course I would QT my fish (I don't have the ability to QT the carpet but I could QT the fish in a a separate system for eight weeks or more).

Thoughts?

e in the c i tryed to purchase same carpet after seller tells me he wont hold i passed it up.
You can purchase and treat in seperate tank
Dont know if nems get ick they are prone to bacterial infections

Hmm. Greg, ill pm you in a min.

I don't know if it's better to buy a carpet that I can put in the tank directly or risk bothering, moving my clowns and keeping them in a QT tank.

Nems cannot contract or carry ich. period. Cryptocaryon, Oodinium, and Brooklynella need a fish host to survive.

This is true. But if the infected fish were in the same tank as the carpet, it could be transferred to my tank via carpet, correct?

I would get it and drip it in. Do several water change in the drip bucket and only transfer the anemone into the tank and no or minimal water. You should be fine. Mix plenty of water and waste a lot of water drip him in to your tank.

I don't think so... As long as you dont transfer any substrate.

You don't think the riskis there?

That's an interesting idea Minh. I'm sure this will lessen the risk significantly.

I have seen ich transferred through a soft coral transfer. That being said the corals did have small amounts of substrate attached to them. All of the fish survived the infection for what it is worth.

True. I think I'm over analyzing the purchase as an "anti-impulse buy" measure. :eek2:
well understood here...

HOWEVER... I have a lot of nice fishes.

IF I came across a really desirable anemone coming from a Crypto infested aquarium I'd sure as heck QT the anemone before putting my fishes at risk.

All it takes is one lousy Crypto tomont.

Put the anemone in QT.

If I am you (in New York) I buy the famous multicolor Gigantea and clowns from Gary Majchrzak in a heartbeat.
Nice healthy, cheap(er than usual) Blue Carpet is a great buy anythime unless you don't have the room for it.

Ich CAN be transmitted on any wet surface, including invert tissue. What inverts CANNOT do is perpetuate the cryptocaryon protozoa life cycle. So if you qt the nem with no fish for the requisite time (i believe i've read 4 weeks) the qt period will interupt the parasite's life cycle and it will die off. Besides copper and hyposalinity (both of which would kill the nem) are the only proven ways to kill ich.

I would consider that. However, Gary is about a 7 hour drive for me :)

I would not let that stop me. I drove from Corpus Christi to Dallas to pick up fish before. That is a 7 hrs drive one way. I arrange to meet somebody 1/2 way once.:fun4:

Please don't think that I am pushing you. I love Gigantea and wanted one for a very long time.

I don't think that at all. Gary's multicolor gig is an absolute beauty.

I decided to buy the anemone. ...:D

The carpet looks very healthy and the fish in the tank looked great. If he didn't tell me I would never know he had crypt in his system almost two months ago.

As for the anemone...Right now she's drip acclimating. I'm going to do a lot of water changes in the bucket, making sure to take my time and "rinse" off the nem very well. It's crunch time with the clowns though. Should I disturb them and take them out of the sixty and put them in a QT container for a number of weeks? I'm worried about stressing them out, and it will definitely be a hassle. But if it's worth it I will.
