Carpets, LTA's, anemones in general....in Bare Bottom systems

Does anyone have an LTA in a BB system?

Does anyone have an anemone in a BB system that typically needs a sand bed?

I have an LTA in a HIGH flow 90g (78x turn over) and so having sand is not something I can do, and having glued quite a few of my SPS to rock...it would be a little tricky to try and predict the movement of a typical "rock-liking" anemone. I was thinking though, that it would probably wedge itself in between a rock and the tank bottom, but it still hasn't done that yet....

Any suggestions?

No one has any info on this....wow...okay I guess I am the guinea pig for this one...

Will let everyone know how it goes..

I doubt your LTA will be happy until its base is buried in 6 inches or so of find sand. I would fill a PVC pipe with sand and seal the bottom for the anemone.

Thats what I figured that should happen...The sand only helps from being pushed around by pumps...as long as the thing is kinda wedged between the LR and tank bottom....

i have a haddoni in my barebottom, only problem i had was shifting around my powerheads (4 koralia 4's) to give him minimal blasting from them, he still gets moved around a little by them but doesn't seem to mind. he opens up to full size and is always ready to eat. has not moved at all from his spot so he seems to be a happy anemone

where one person's LTA decides to chill out isn't exactly where yours will choose to plant itself. It varies from specimen to specimen, and from tank to tank.

It can be done, but it can also be a headache.
You could do the PVC or container of sand trick, but you'd be lucky to find the spot it likes.
My LTA is much more sensitive to light/flow compared to my sebae, and I'm only about 40x.
I made a cave for it so it could draw in or out as it likes.
78x flow, that's alot for any nem IMO.
Good luck.

I've never had any luck keeping LTA's in BB tanks. They always moved around to much. I have two in a DSB now and they are doing much better.

yeah i may be one of the lucky ones with my LTA. i've had him for awhile. once he found a spot, he has not moved.

Cool, do you do sand container?
One of our really exp reefers here tried that, but it wouldn't stay anywhere he put it, but he has sps and really high flow as well.
What do you have for flow in yours?

no sand container. right now it's in a 20 long.

i have 2 koralia 1's and a bakpak skimmer. lighting is an aquamedic 250 MH, 20K bulb.

2 false percs are hosting in it and i find that strange because that's not their natural host.

Maybe it's not moving much because it just doesn't have much of anywhere to go? 20g is quite a tight space for such a (potentially) large anemone.

Clowns will often be hosted by unnatural species in our aquariums...this is evidenced daily by the pair of Ocellaris that are in and out of my frogspawn :D

i dont think being in a 20 long has anything to do with it. i've had one in my 90 and it moved around all over the place.
