Chappy's 300 gallon peninsula

Got the rest of my plumbing last night. My helpers thought they were toys.

I made the sump too big and I might make another one. It is 60x24. I don't know how I did 24 wide. Every drawing I had was 20. I guess once we started cutting I never thought about it. I filled it with water and it did bow a tiny bit, so I added a cross brace in the center.

Off to home depot to get a hole saw bit to drill my bulkheads.

If you have room for it I would stick with that size. I went with a 48x20 sump on my system and Im finding it to be too small. so now Im looking to go bigger. I would suggest going thicker on the acrylic. I would use at least 3/8" and 1/2" would be better. If you look at some of the sump builders...mrc and trigger systems Im pretty sure they use 1/2" on anything over 48".

I think 3/8 would be fine. I wanted it big but now I'm finding there isn't much room under the tank for anything else, but it'll do for now.

Got the rest of my plumbing last night. Hopefully it will be done this weekend.
2.5 inch ball valves are expensive and huge, especially when being held by a two year old.

Looking great. I went with a peninsula as well, but mine is only 150g. It sure has changed the hobby for me. Now it is in the main part of the house and kind of the focal point. I find the whole family is interested in it and I keep it immaculately clean. nice to be able to sit and eat dinner and look at my tank!

Well it has been a while. I haven't done a lot. I got a little shell shocked on the cost of the cabinet maker gave me. I got a quote for $9600 to do the cabinetry! That is crazy to me. My kitchen cabinets are nice and that was what I wanted, but not anymore. I have left messages with 3 other cabinet builders and only one has tried to contact me back.

My stinking well water is driving me crazy. 1000 tds going into the RODI doesn't get me many gallons of 0 tds water. I just got a second membrane and booster pump to see if that will help. We will see as soon as it is hooked up.

I have an electrician coming tomorrow to set up a dedicated circuit for the tank (actually two). He will be installing a generator as soon as the permitting is done. Hurricane season is in full force.

That's an insane price on a stand and canopy. Wonder if he was going to make it out of solid gold.

Great build. Can't wait to see it done.

That's what I thought about that price.

I'm getting ocean water delivered in the next couple days.
Finally!

I didn't have time to get them up. I went out of town the next day. It took me a while just to get the vega's going. There is no directions and the controller has a mind of its own. AI is supposed to release the "director" at macna which looks like you will be able to use the laptop or iPad to control them. My LFS owner will let me trade the sols to the Vega if I want to which I think is going to happen and I'll probably add one more. Hopefully Sunday I'll have time to work on everything.

I'm at a BBQ competition in Tennessee right now...about to put the ribs on. We need to place in the top ten here to move on to the finals in Arkansas. This is my other hobby that might cost as much as the aquarium hobby, lol. Well only if you don't win. When you win, you get to take home a little bit. :)

I'm not sure where AI came up with saying that the controller is "simply a joy to use". They should take that off the website. LOL

Do you have any ideas on mounting? Possibly something that could accommodate both SOL/Vegas, and then strictly Vegas once you trade in?

Good luck at the BBQ competition!
We will be waiting for updates! :]
