Chappy's 300 gallon peninsula

can't wait to see you tank up and running with sea water.

post pics.

It now has water going through the system.

I'm not sure where AI came up with saying that the controller is "simply a joy to use". They should take that off the website. LOL

Do you have any ideas on mounting? Possibly something that could accommodate both SOL/Vegas, and then strictly Vegas once you trade in?

Good luck at the BBQ competition!
We will be waiting for updates! :]

You are completely right. The controller is terrible so far. I did contact them about it. If you plug it into your computer, then it is much less sensitive when scrolling with the buttons.

I don't have all the lights up yet because I don't have the canopy built yet. I'm going to do something very simple just to get them all up there and see what height I want.

Thanks. We came in fifth overall and qualified for the SAMs Club National BBQ tour finals in Arkansas this coming weekend. The tour started with 900 teams and now we are down to 50 in the finals.

Nice tank. Nice family too, seems like you guys know how to have fun. Good luck with your build and your BBQ.

Thanks. I like the family too.

Here is my water situation. My well water gives me about 1000 tds. I tried two membranes and it just isn't working the way I want it so later today I'm going to install my rodi unit at the office. I bought a 275 gallon tote off Craig's list that ill use for transporting the water.

I ran three rodi lines through the attic to the tank. I'm setting up an automatic water change with the liter meter. One is the topoff water, one is saltwater coming in and the other will be tank water going out to the drain. While I was in the attic trying it fit into the tight space and sweating like crazy, I thought about my career choice and liked it even better, lol.

I haven't set up the protein skimmer yet because I've been trying to keep the noise down for my wife while there is no cabinets yet. I think I will do that tomorrow.

The bean animal set up is pretty good. I have a 180 going right now about twenty feet away with a mag 18 and it is way louder than the 300 with the dart.

I'll get some pics later. The kids soccer got canceled so we are going to the zoo this morning instead. I'll get a pic of the lorikeets when my son feeds them. That's our favorite.

Update on everything...

The tank has cycled, gone through diatoms and hair algae, a few water changes and is doing great right now.

I set up my liter meter to do daily automatic water changes and add top off water. I love it! I have a few fish in the tank now after going through some QT woes and learning experiences...ammonia and prazipro means death to most fish!

I'm still waiting on cabinets. I have added three more vegas. Here are a couple pics.

Looking forward to watching the reef develop. Great start so far including all the "child labor" - is that even legal?:D

Lol. I paid them in goldfish crackers.

I have 4 frags right now. I am trying to wait about a month to see how they are doing before I buy more. It is soooooo hard to wait!

On another note. My snails tonight all congregated up in the corner of the tank out of the water! Some kind of snail orgy?

Update...well it took a while but my stand and canopy are finally done. The tank is coming along nicely. I haven't had any issues really. I have bought lots of frags and only a few haven't done well. Most everything is growing really well. Here are a few pics.

awesome tank. I eventually want to build peninsula style tank. Hands down it is by far the best style tank. If you don’t mind me asking, how much did the tank cost with shipping and everything? (you can PM me) how much did the dedicated circuit end up costing? Why did you choose to run the closed loop up top with the overhead nozzles instead of lower tubing with a 4 way?

thanks for the reply ahead of time!

Looks great. Cabinetry work turned out amazing. Did you end up doing it yourself?

I almost did. However, we just put a fireplace in where the old tank was and the guy who did the mantle did a nice job. So I talked to him about it and he did a great job.

Awesome peninsula! What lights are those finally?

I have 8 AI Vega's over it.

I really like the peninsula. I love being able to walk around it. Reef savvy was pretty expensive but I went down and picked it up myself so saved a ton on shipping. The tank was a little over four grand if I can remember correctly. I had a budget of about ten grand when I started....had is the key word there.

I wanted to keep the plumbing simple and didn't want the possibility of leaking bulk heads under the tank. I run the dart up the back then have 8 nozzles over top. I'll probably get another couple of mp40s when the corals get bigger. Two is giving pretty good flow right now.

I am trying to figure out how to get some realistic photos with the led's. I have an old dslr and I am playing with my parameters, but some photos on this site are awesome...mine are not. I took a quick iPhone video walking around the tank. Ill post that instead of my photos.

So far, I have about 50 different sps and a few lps. Here is the quick video.
