Cheapest place to buy fire blood red shrimp?

when i bought a fire shrimp from 0street they charged me $25

and i hardly see the dang thing! i thought it had died as i did not see it for 3 months, then one day-there he was!!!

now i at least see him at feeding time

no, they are very shy of the light, unless you have a bare tank....you won't see them.....EVER, unless at night.

I have seen my red blood shrimp attack anything. I agree with most people that you won't see much of the shrimp since they like to hide. I prefer a cleaner shrimp - which aren't as nice looking, but usually have much better personality.

i love cleaner shrimp, i personally think cleaners look nicer than fire shrimp. the cleaners still have red but not as much and i like the yellow on the cleaner shrimps. the one i have cleans my hand whenever its in the tank and my nephew loves to have it clean his fingers.

plus they generally cost less and come out alot more often.

its still nice to have the fire shrimp becuase to see him is like a "special event"

ok so looks like the cleaner shrimp it is, what about having both? Also will the bioload increase by a lot by having a cleaner shrimp? I have a 12 gallon aquapod.

thanks

agreed, cleaner are better with more personality in the long run...

IMO, there are the stuff you have to have ie: snails, hermits.....then there are the detrivores you want specialty crabs, the fire shrimp are more specialty.....the cleaner have more of a purpose.....

Bioload....probably not....they eat what they ecrete.

Having both a fire shrimp and a cleaner shrimp in a 12G is no problem at all. For a while, I had two cleaner shrimps and a fire shrimp in a 12G, and they got along just fine.

Like Sacramentodots said - they don't add much to the bio load, so I wouldn't worry about it. If anything, I think they tend to help the bio load because they eat some of the dead stuff that would normally just decay in your tank.

Not sure if you are headed to the bay anytime soon but i was at Tropical Paradise last night and they are having a special on the shrimp. I THINK the fire shrimp were 14-15 and the cleaners 12.99. I think there was a deal if you spent X ammount of money as well.

I loved the color of our fire shrimp but like others said I only saw it when it was feeding time. Cleaner shrimp seem a lot more active day and night.

i loved my fire shrimp until he went in the tank. then i hardly saw him. when i did he was very skittish. go with the cleaner - i got one of those to and they are very friendly. will clean you cuticles for you.
