Chinese LED Lights

monkiboy, it looks like you have almost a 3:1 ratio of blue to white, right? So at 100% power, what color temp would you say your lights are? 14K, 16K, 20K?
yep, just about sir. at 100% on both, i'd say it's about 16k. i can't run them at 100% though as the PAR is just too much at the sandbed unless it's in the corners so don't worry too much. you have those potentiometers for a reason and they will let you dial in the look you want easily assuming you design your channel layout accordingly.

monkiboy, why did you go with columns instead of the checkered pattern for the two switches?
because i knew the design and look i was going for would involve a heavy blue LED layout. i wanted a majority of these blues on their own channel so the column layout allows for a higher concentration on one channel. so that the whites could almost fill their own channel completely and adjusting for the "look" one wants, would be easier without getting too many blues into the white channel.

Hello,

tank sizes are 65"X 29" wide and 25" deep and which optics do I need?I am thinking of 2X IT2080. 90° or no optics(=120°?)

Many thanks

Frank

Anyone have an email address or phone number from Reef Breeders? Tried the email address on the PayPal invoice and can't get it to go through.

I know this has been gone over probably close to a million times but

Why does everyone use all 460 and no 440? Isn't 460 almost out of the absorption range while 440 is dead in it? These color charts are gonna be the death of me! I need to have it figured out by Wednesday so I can order.

I'm thinking on driver #1 5-420 10-440 13-460
#2: 6-3500 4-6500 8-10k 2-red 2-green 5-460

Or maybe I should put the red and green on #1 and more blue on #2. This is such a pain! Its fun though

Hello All,

Have two basic D120s already. Missed some of the blue and lower spectrum violets that my T5 actinics had. Going to give this layout a shot. Any thoughts or suggestions? Looking for a 15 to 20K look. Thanks!

bhazard451,
Any chance I can get feed back from you on what my color layout will be like and what, if anything (yeah, right, sure, like I'm going to get it right never having done this before) you would change?
Thanks

I can't look at color layouts anymore. They hurt my head. Too many variables.

Just stick to the basics of what color temp you are trying to achieve with everything at 100%, and decide from there.

If you are willing to make a custom ratio, you should also be willing to change out and solder leds until you are 100% happy.

I dont thing the whole full spectrum thing is 100% proven yet as far as adding in 10 different nm leds. That being said I like the look of my full spectrum style lights over the standard blue and whites

I use a wide spectrum mostly because I like the look better myself. The theory behind it is sound, and it hasn't been detrimental to my tanks at all in the past 8 months.

You just need to balance it right. Too many reds will create an algae farm. Too many violets can bleach coral... etc.

i have been wondering is there a document that show the color of each particular led on a tank to show what they actually look like. I would be wanting a tank that has a deep blue shimmer which makes acans color pop and reallly makes those red green blues and oranges pop!
