Chinese LED Lights

Will one IT2080 be enough fr a 48x24" tank?

I think you'll be OK. I have 2 IT2080s and love them over my 180. I also have just 1 D120 over my 4' 55g QT and it's not enough by about 30-40%. I know an IT2040 won't be enough. An IT2060 might, but it isn't more lights, it's just spread out more than the IT2040 (better/bigger coverage area but lower PAR). If you want the IT series, the 2080 should work.

i want to buy led lights my tank is 265 gallon and 30in deep taotronics makes 212watt light what is better for coral more blue leds or more white leds

There is a lot of discussion about that, you'll probably get a variety of answers. I won't even try. Read this and see if it helps.

However, remember as you consider the look (color) of your light, that whites overpower the blues very quickly. If you want a 14K MH (slightly blue) look, you need way more blue leds than white (maybe 2:1 blue to white). I got new EG lights with a 3:2 blue to white ratio and at 100% they are very white (but no 10K MH yellow). I need to dial back the white channel (which does have some blues as well) to about 50% before I get much blue tint at all.

Also, go back and look at the buyer's comments on some of the TaoTronics lights. Really? You would still consider buying from them after reading about all their issues? Really? Have you read how many happy buyers of EG units are in this thread? And even those that had issues, got them resolved by EG at no cost? And nobody here is talking about TaoTronics? Like you, I found them first, but I read the buyer reviews and wasn't at all impressed. Then I found this thread. Problem solved.

This is the latest after the water settled, I got the skimmer going, and aquascaped some. Still not the greatest picture from a phone. I have to get a cleaning brush to get the in tank streaks out. With nothing in the tank to go by it is hard to tell the colors. With Sunny and Cloudy settings, I really like the actual color...not too blue and not too white. My daughter asked how it will make the corals "pop" when we get them. I had to show her her shoelaces under the light so she could understand.

Here are a few pics of the IT2080's over my 125g. I did the standard layout from reefbreeders with 90 degree optics. The lights need to be move to the center of the tank more. The old MH hanging kit was already there, so I just hung them up really quick. I will move them in a day or two.

Jeepers, Not sure why that first pic is so large. Sorry.

Bhazard or Ron Reefman,

Is there a trick to having the moonlights come on during the custom setting??? I set up the custom mode to match my old light cycle, during the dark period I want the moonlights on. The program only gives me the 2 channels to adjust (that I see at least, LOL). Any advice??

thanks everyone for contributing to this thread. Very informative. bhazard, good to see you finally got those razors going, I was really interested to hear your thoughts on it.

Now I want to see some people's growth pictures under these lights!! I think I'll hang on the fence for a while to see the verdict.

There is all these folks who say they've never seen growth for SPS on LED. There are plenty of accounts. There are many threads right on this forum if you look around of people successful with radions, AIs, orpheks, and even DIY. There might even be a thread for Chinese LED growth pics....I need to search it still.

Interestingly, my LEDs were DIY'ed by a local guy about 3 years ago. Cool whites, blues and a couple reds. I have 242 watts of 3 watt LEDs. My PAR at the water level directly under these lights is less than 300. At the sand it's less than 50 (24" deep 90g tank). Things have come a long way! With these lights, I can get less light intense SPS like birdsnest and green montipora to grow just fine.

Wow! you have a PAR of less that 300 at the water level? And it's 242 watts of 3w leds? I have that PAR at 18" underwater, and thats with 200 3w Bridgelux leds driven by 2 120w drivers. I'm just say'n...

As for coral growth under leds. I set up a new 24g frag tank about 6 months ago and traded a MH for a Radion and used it over the frag tank. I had sps and lps in there and they grew OK. A new friend I met about 6 mths ago has a 220g with year old leds that are just blue and white and have no dimmers. His tank is a mix of corals and they are growing just fine. We both just got EverGrow IT2080's and they look great and have PAR numbers a bit better than my 4 bulb 250w MH did at the sand. I can't show you growth yet because my corals are all growing into eachother. And after 2 weeks, the sps all show continued signs of growth (white tips and edges).

I had a good Acro mille example of growth pics under these with my cube in this thread or the old one. Unfortunately, when I moved it to my new 125g setup, the system wasn't ready for it and it bleached.

AMAZINGLY enough though, it just started re-growing polyps! I may take pics of it to show regeneration over the next few months. I also have a green staghorn I just put in that is doing well.

As far as the Razors go, I like them, but I don't see them as a permanent replacement to the IT lights. I have the ability to modify leds at will with the ITs, with the razors, I don't. I wasn't 100% happy with the look of the 16k. My acrylic PAR measuring stick wasn't ready yet, and one of the units was DOA.

Couple of SPS growth shots in my frag/recovery tank. Green Slimer and a browned out sky blue acro.
In July (right side about 2.5" no encrusting)
humuza7y.jpg

A few weeks ago Slimer about 8" fully encrusted, blue acro coloring up on the new growth. Birdsnest grown from colony in my tank from about 1" single branch
dery5egy.jpg

Tonight new branches on Slimer (top and disk) acro on frag plug encrusting nicely and starting to color up.

These lights grow SPS just fine these have been under the D120 the whole time I've had them and they are doing good. I got the acro super cheap and it is turning out to be a beautiful coral. My phone doesn't really show the true colors of these corals under LEDs but hope this helped some who are on te fence about SPS.

Here's hoping we'll get a side by side comparison someday....hint hint.

What a great thread!

Ok so I am about to ditch my old PC lighting(4x 55w indv reflectors) that has done ok on softies and want to go LED. The tank is 75gal and is only populated with some softies coral wise(some shrooms and zoas)

I had originally planed on going with 2 d120s but this new IT2080 looks like a great deal. Would a single IT2080 be ok over the tank? It has a black center brace that i'm hoping wont effect too much.

I had planed on going with 90* optics and the default ************ layout. Any issues with this? The unit should be about 6" above the water.

What kind of power setting should I start out with when converting to LED from PC?

Lastly would I have any issues growing anything(well as far as lighting concerns) in the tank? I'd like to get into LPS maybe some sps and an anemone

Razor vs. IT2040 :)

That's what I was hoping to do, a side by side with PAR numbers, then a side by side with a Radion Pro.

Eventually, they will all be sold off once I finish my DIY light for the tank. Each fixture is basically a demo to see what look I like best, and then to modify the DIY light to match it. The Razors and IT/D120 lights are probably the only 2 LED lights I would consider as cost/value options per length needed. The rest are just too overpriced for what they are.

yes, when you take off leds, there is some residual thermal paste on the lamp panel, then you just keep them and don't clean away. Thermal paste is to protect leds from being burn out. Hope help you guys.

LED's & Chinese New Year - their Spring Festival

For those of you on the fence about buying directly from EverGrow as a Group Buy or through an American reseller that has to have the fixture made in China, please note this infomation from Sunny their sales person yesterday.

"Because the Spring Festival in coming, Chiese worker will have 2 weeks holiday. EverGrow Spring Festival holiday is from Feb. 1st to Feb.20th."

With good coordination there is still time to get an order shipped before the shut down.
