Chinese LED Lights

I added more thermal paste. I don't think what is left over is close to enough to protect the LEDs. Reef breeders sent me some with my LEDs I purchased. It only needs a little bit but what was left over was uneven and IMO not enough.

Hi guys. I've been reading this thread since it started up and I have to say that I learned a lot from it and know am ready to order my LEDs from reefbreeder. I spoke with Logan from reefbreeder and he was very helpful on the fixtures I should go with. My question to you guys is should I get 2 32inch 2080s for my 125 gallon with by the way has 2 center braces or can I get 1 2080 and 1 2040 going this way is a big money difference but I want to do this the right way. Any suggestions would be great thanks

Big money difference? What are they charging you? In our group buy with EG we only paid $100 more for an IT2080 over an IT2040 ($340 vs $240 delivered).

I put two IT2080s over my 6' 180g DT and couldn't be happier. I assume your 125g is 6' as well? Do the 2080's. The odd couple pair (an IT2080 & an IT2040) may work, but I think you will be cutting it close on good coverage end to end. I like it so well that I'd like to try a pair of IT2080s from EG with Cree leds for the extra $50/each just to see if they can be run at lower power because they have better PAR values.

Well am ordering my 2080s from reefbreeders and am really only saving about $150 if I go 2080 and 2040s but am going to get the 2 2080s because I Don't want any shaded areas in my tank..did you go with the standard layout for the 2080s because am debating on adding some more reds and some 480nm blues not sure yet.

If you have two center braces then it must be the 6 foot tank. That is what I have. I put 3 D 120' S on. They're great, other than the fact that you have to manually dim them. I'm still swapping out LEDs. I have a couple more to do and I think that should do it, then I will do the other two. I got the LEDs from Logan $1.50 each five bucks shipping. Very easy.

I do have 6 foot long tank with the 2 center braces and I was planning on get the d120s but I didn't want the hassle of me haveing to dim the lights manuel as now they sell the d120 with the dimming option but for that cost I figures why not just get 2 2080s:thumbsup:

Even for $150, I'd do the 2 IT2080's. I did a custom layout with EverGrow. Here is a pic of my layout. It's about 3:2 blue to white. It's very white 10K MH at 100% on both channels and gets to a mildly 14K look at about 100% blue and 40-50% white. The whites overpower the blue pretty quickly.

Ron reefman I noticed that you changed your moonlights to red and violet does that help the corals or fish and also I was thinking of having 8 violets per fixture but am not sure if this would help or not even be a factor for my tank any thoughts?

Lol no offense taken

but it's completely harmless one of the nicest stores here in Tampahas been in business for well over 10 years and the owner is 1 of the most knowledgeable reefers I've ever met and he was the one that gave me the idea and since then I have done it on four tanks which 0 problems a 55 a 65 a 75 and a 120...

Its not changing any structure its simply cutting a small piece out and replacing that piece with some clear ... you just have to do while the tank is empty

Steve,

The red squares are really just the 450nm blue leds that are standard from EG. I didn't change them. The violet is different and it isn't nearly as bright (or maybe I should say 'visible to the human eye') as the 450nm. I'm going to take the 90 degree lenses off the moonlights (and all other colors except the blues and whites). When I do, I may swap out the 2 450nm moonlights for more violets. As it is now I run the moonlights at 2%. I think the violets will look cool and can be turned up some to make them a bit brighter. As a moonlight, I hope it makes those corals that glow in the blue look even better.

Remember, 410nm violets are really dim to the human eye compared to even 430nm blue. Just get some extra blue leds and if you don't like the violets, you can swap them out later. And we still don't know for sure that Bridgelux has solved/cured the 'burning' of the violet and UV leds. Mine are the new ones, but mine have only been running for 2 weeks.

^ With all respect, I would never do that. That brace was structural. Just my opinion.

I agree. I had an 80 gallon bowfront that had a similar replacement brace with 4 plastic screws just like the ones pictures. Eventually the the bolts snapped clean in half from the pressure of the water.

Didn't no that the violets and uv LEDs burnt out thanks for letting me know so am going to call Logan from reefbreeders and tell him to send me extra LEDs just in case.i was also planning on changing at least 3 blue moons to violets
