the 250-275 did not seem high, the 500 on air did, I have never seen differences this great from air to water, but I run carbon all the time

Your earlier comment about there being very little difference between air and water in the transmission of light doesn't match up with my experience using an Apogee PAR meter. Not that I've done any tests... but since I've got one, maybe I should give it a try. Have you ever tested this yourself?

The IT2080 is 32" long, not 36". And in your case, with a really long tank, that is a serious difference.
That said, I think the IT2080 with 90 degree lenses and over a 34" deep tank (right?), it should cover an extra 6-8" on each end. You could get more coverage (at slightly lower PAR) by installing some 120 degree lenses at the last 2 or 3 rows of leds at both ends (and do the moonlights and all red, green, violet and UV leds at the same time). You can also stagger the lights so the 2 in back are 16" offsetleft to right compared to the 2 in the front row.
I think the IT2080 is capable of doing the job, however, you may get some shadowing at the extreme ends of the tank with 90 degree lenses. Get enough extra 120degree lenses to do 2-4 rows at both ends, Maybe all 4 for 2 rows and then just the middle 2 leds in the next 2 rows which should cast a little less light out front and back and still get some out to the ends (and do the moonlights and all red, green, violet and UV leds at the same time). And if you are doing a serious (or not so serious) mostly sps tank, you might be better off with 2 of the IT2040's. BTW my 2040 runs super cool, both my 2080's run just a bit warm. And to be fair, I'm only 5 weeks into using my EG lights, but they have been trouble free so far and I like them better that my EcoTech Radion, especially at half the price! The Radion is for sale if anybody is interested. :blown:

Ron.. why it 2040? over the 2080? i get the 120 degree optics but here is another thought what do think. do 5 of them two in back and two in front all parrell and them one in the center prependicualr .. in other words there is a center cross brass and the fifth one would basically divide the left and right. fill in the gap and that way i could put the others at the left and right end of the tank? kinda like this = | = Thoughts?

Im loving my new IT280's! Ive seen significant increase growth and color with just having them about three weeks. One thing that Im a little dissapointed about though is that Im not quite getting full coverage at the ends of my 48" tank. They are currently at about 6" off the water and have 120 degree optics. Ive been slowly ramping them up 5% a week as Logan suggested and glad to say havent bleached any corals yet.
Im thinking maybe as I ramp up to the higher end the coverage will be better? Or maybe I will need to add one of the 120 units to get stronger coverage on the ends? Any suggestions? Overall I love them though

So Looking used older Chinese set up. The tank pictures don't look to bad. I am looking at this to get started, then up grade later. I don't have a tank set up yet but want to be able to grow what ever I want. What are your thoughts on this LED combo.. ?? Thanks for any input!! Oh yeah forgot to add he wants $100
total 42 3W LED, 6 UV leds, 18 RB, 16 cool white, 1 red, 1 green
- full spectrum for a good coral growth, easily keep sps with this light.
- removable 90deg optics for each bulb except UV bulbs
- used for less than 2 years on my reef tank
- dimension 20inch*10inch*5
- built in digital programmable timers for three channels
- two dimming knobs for different channels.
- come with transformer (120-220v), mounting brackets

In affecting visuals, yes. For coral, no.
Cyan seems to be a better fit for coral, but they do not carry cyan leds at the moment.
About to buy 2 reef breeder 120 value units. Should I customize there layout at all? Or is the standard layout of colors good to go? Also anybody know if you customize can you add moonlights? Thanks. GREAT THREAD! question might already have been answered but by page 20 my eyes hurt lol.

I'd have to agree, that thing looks a bit crude compared to current ones.
But how does one determine which current models have the quiet fans before purchasing? The unit I got used sounds like a server rack in a datacenter.
