Chinese LED Lights

Hey 89, if you are not, get on the local colorado MASC forums.

The evergrow's are a competitor with reefbreeders which are similiar units. I think you would be fine with either company. Some differences but both are full spectrum. Many threads talking about both here in the lighting section.

They are "kind of" competitors. EverGrow makes the ReefBreeder fixtures for them. But they sell their own as well. I've had EverGrow fixtures for 10 months now and still love them.

But EverGrow fixtures don't say EverGrow anywhere on them as they don't want to be seen as a competitor to their customers who re-brand the products and sell them as their own. They are much more involved in the greenhouse and plant nursery lighting industry. Aquarium lighting is a nice niche market they fit right into.

Personally, I think EverGrow is one of, if not the best, led fixture manufacturer in China. So Reef Breeder's fixtures are just as good. And there are several distributors for EverGrow here in the US. OceanRevive is both a distributor and authorized warranty provider for EverGrow, and they sell their own fixture (soon to be more than one) and a sponsor here on RC.

Ahhh....gotcha now. So then i'll definitely like the IT2080 over my 40B. I've got the sellers 120W programmable one for $250 and like it. But will use it on the 26G still for maybe a frag tank.

Hey Guys,

I've been reading this thread a lot and have been debating about ordering a D120 V2 full spectrum for my tank.

I have a 24g cube with a mix of LPS, SPS and a bubble tip anemone. I currently have a pair of Vertex Illumilux 300's they're 20w. Each has 3w LED's, 3 white 3 blue..

I really like the idea of a full spectrum set, and this would simplify it with ONE box instead of two strips.

Will I notice a big difference between the sets?

The D120 is 120w so you will notice the difference. I've got something similar but programmable now and I like it better than the t5's I had.

Be careful with this fixture. There are 55 leds and the are being driven to 165W which is a full 3W per led. That means 2 things, they will be bright (good PAR) and they may run a bit warmer than other leds that aren't driven so hard. I didn't see anything about their heatsinks or fans in the spec sheet. Most/many led fixtures are only driven at somewhere between 2.0 and 2.5 watts. They run cooler and last longer. Also, this fixture has 60 degree lenses which isn't good for tanks that are less than 30" deep. You will have a higher PAR but the spotlight or disco effect will be more pronounced. It should be a good strong light, but better suited to one that is 30" or 36" deep. You really want access to a PAR meter when you set this light up. I'm just saying, be careful. I don't want you to be one of those people who bleach or burn their corals and then thing all leds are bad. This could be a very strong light and you'll want to know the PAR it is producing.

Also, their recommendation of 14 hours on and 8 off is absurd. If it had controllers rather than dimmers and you were doing a slow sunrise and sunset, OK. But with just dimmers a 14 hour day is too long IMHO. Many coral biologists now suggest that the zooxanthellae in coral only do photosynthesis for 4-8 hours a day. I think their advise on a 14 hour lighting period and 60 degree lenses is good evidence of the fact they don't know what they are doing (or worse, don't care).

I cranked it all the way up to test it and it does get pretty warm, however there is a serious heat sink inside with proper fans. I'll be keeping it relatively low at 20%-30% to start, don't worry I'm coming from LED's already, I don't plan on bleaching my corals!

Or were you talking about the 165w fixture?

Mabyboi keep us posted. Going to get one myself.

This one look pretty nice too and it's 165W

Will do! Being installed today!

I think Ron's talking about the 165W fixture. From the pic it comes with 2 fans.

BTW this may be a dumb question, I apologize in advance but do most led fixtures come with a power button or you'd have to yank the cords to turn them off? I know there are some led strips that don't come with a power button.

The turn dial for LED 1 and LED 2 let you turn it all the way down and turn it off.
