Chuuk (Truk) Lagoon

Hi guys,
I'm planning a trip to Chuuk Lagoon this summer with two friends. We are leaning towards a liveaboard but are open to staying on land too. I'm just wondering if anyone has gone diving in Chuuk, what company you went with and what they were like. Value for money, number of dives, how many other divers are on the boat etc.

Any info you can share would be great :)

These guys run trips to Bikini and Chuuk...good reputation

you could just fly there and coordinate dives with either Truk stop or Blue Lagoon. The wrecks are not far off shore, so no real need to do a live aboard unless you want to. Leave in the morning and you can burn 4 tanks if you wanted to.

Half of the wrecks are deeper than 130 so a lot of technical diving (trimix, CCR) etc, but they'll pair you with a group of like divers if you dont have tech diver certs.

at the very least, i would make sure you are nitrox certified so you maximize bottom times.

its real seasonal how many divers will be on island, tons of European and Japanese divers.

its a loooong way out here, plan on 2 to 3 days travel both ways.

once in a lifetime trip so get your photo gear in order and have fun.

One last note, out of all the FSM countries, Chuukese have a reputation for their first to fight warrior mentality, mind your p's and q's at the bar. :beachbum:

more info. this is a local package circulating around my dive club....give you an idea on prices.

Either land or liveaboard would work. Some of the wrecks are awesome, some not so much. It has been a while for me but my favorite was San Francisco Maru.
