clowns hosting Condy anemone

Is there anything wrong with a Condy anemone hosting a pair of false percula clowns.

I bought a pair of clowns hoping to get an anemone for them in two weeks. I currently have a Condy anemone and the guy at the pet shop told me the clowns wont host it, but these little braves ones are all over the Condy. I dont know if its good or bad, every day they get closer.

That is what i am trying to avoid. But i feel like i cant do anything they just wont get away.

i wont tell you what to do but i thnk i would consider getting the condi out and replacing it with a BTA

what kind of clowns do you have?

I have a pair of Tank bred - Ocellaris Clownfish about an inch long each. I wont mind if you write what is best for my clowns,i want to keep them.I wouldnt mind swapping out the Condi.

well the tank is pretty young for an anemone still but thats not always a rule set in stone.

tells me about the tank what kind of Flow? Lights? filtration/skimmer? i assume its the 55g reef you described
also can you post you water parameters are? do you remember what levels are still fluctuating in your system ?
any extra info will help like what other fish are in the tank and what inverts are in there.

I currently have my return giving me about 450 gph(with the calculator from this site) and a power head with 170 gph. For lights i have 260 watt PC, in the sump a euro-reef skimmer with Activated carbon and the return pump. I have a pulse Xenia, one diamond watchman goby, two nudibranchs, and the clean up crew. I just added the clowfish 5 days ago.

To be real honest with you i have not been testing my water for almost a month and half.I just been keeping up with water changes. My tank passed two blooms of ugly algae. Now its looking nice and the Condi looks good since day one.

Clarks quite often will adopt condylactis anemones, they have most anemone hosts of all the anemone fish. Your Occilerus will be fine, they just decided to take and anemone that they never would encounter inthe wild

i dont think so, with condi's there is always the risk i would take it out, how much would you looses 10 bucks? i have seen condis, eat maroon , perc, and occellaris...
get a bta...
good luck

yep

it is a bad combination all the way around. Harm can come to the artificial host as well. They will contract making it harder for them to feed and get the light that they need. I have seen clowns kill condi's on more than one occasion.

elegance coral, all clowns do not have the same aggressive hosting personality.

Man........ I know you are not trying to start with me again. :D

And not all condi's eat the clowns that try to use them as hosts.

 the difference is that people said that the clowns MIGHT be eaten...you said that the anemone WILL contract and have a harder time getting food and light. Let's not start a brawl in here over some relatively trivial details :)

In any case, better safe than sorry. I'd be a nervous wreck waking up every morning wondering "So...did they get eaten yet?"

I've even heard some say that condy's are somehow capable of lulling the clowns into a false sense of security so that they don't react to the feeding response of the anemone, but I don't know how accurate that is.

well, currently everything is normal. The condi's behavior has been outstanding, just like the clowns. They respond to each other. Still i actually wake up in the mornings asking are they still there. Overall the relationship seems friendly. The clowns even lays in the center of the condy. Only lately i've noticed the condy to be more active, as in it stretches high and it's some of the tentacles seem to be curlying /discoloring at the end.

This is a symptom of light depravation. I think I just posted a little something about the condi not getting enough light. I'm sorry but if you leave the clowns in the condi it will die a very slow death.

You would have to remove it from the same tank with the clowns. You could give him away or set up a different tank for him or the clowns. I hope you can come up with something to do with your condi. Its not right to just let it die like this. I'm not saying that this is what you are doing. You are doing the right thing here by asking questions. Hopefully soon both your condi and clowns will be happy the way nature intended them to be, separated.

Yeah I will most likely have to give it away. I've been thinking about that for a while when my initial concerns with the hosting.
Quick question I believe I read somewhere about the condy cutting down it's own tentacles. Could that be a form of shedding?
