Columbia University

I got a letter from Columbia University today saying that they are interested in my as a potential Student application due to my envolvemtn, GPA, and SAT/ACT test scores.

For the 08-09 school year (my freshman year) Full tuition (room/board, books, standard tuition) = $49,000 per year.

That comes out to be $196,000 for four years of standard college education assuming that I do not choose to go pre-law or pre-med.

If i applied there, I would most likely get no scholarship since it is such a prestigious University.

Should i send them a letter back telling them that they are crazy!? :D $196K !!!!!!!!! for 4 year standard college!

damn, for pretty much that exact same amount Im gonna have 2 bachelor's degrees and a doctoral degree

but I dont have as much envolvemtn as you ;)

Tell them to bill you Matt.

Speaking of skills...this one has baffled me for a long time...
"Preforming mouth to mouth resuscitation on animals."

What exactly is preforming? If it is dirty I don't want to know...ok? :D

Matt, are you just now starting to get letters from colleges?

It sucks, you'll get about 150 college letters in the next year and a half. 90% of which you never knew existed.

Also, some of those most prestigious universities are the cheapest. This is because they offer so many scholarships for people that are that smart. They are expensive, but the students that attend receive so many scholarships that they become relatively affordable schools on average.

no, i have gotten a lot of letters from crapy schools. this is the first Super hard to get into one that has sent me anything.

i take that back, I have gotten some from Holy Cross, SLU, and Creighton(sp?)

IMO, undergrad schools dont make much difference

if you were going for an advanced or professional degree then you may want to consider them

but for undergrad, regular public schools are great, like mizzou or illinois, florida state, texas, etc

I am most likely headed to U of Illinois. Ranked within the top 30 in the nation for the majority of their programs.

beats the pants off of MU for only $7500 a year if you are in state

if i get good money, i will go to SLU (most likely will happen)

It depends what you want to do. If you want to be a lawyer or a doctor you want to go to a good enough school that will actually get you into a good grad school. Most people who go to, lets say, SEMO dont get into Harvard for grad school. I have a friend who went to Kansas State and did go to Harvard for grad school, and I went to KU with a few people who went on to Ivy League schools for a masters. But none of my friends that went to "Missouri State" went on to big grad schools.

By the way Creighton is a decent school, my buddy has a Bachelors in business and works as a buyer for Barney's in NY. $$$$$

Trottie, all Im trying to say is not to waste money on an undergrad degree from an expensive school (obviously if they gave you scholarships then it would be a good thing, but most of the "financial aid" you referenced are student loans)

my biology degree from NDSU ($2000/year) got me into the same school as some of my classmates from Purdue
