Connecticut Mag Rescue

Having now completed 7 days of cipro in HT, nem has not been looking as good. I have been battling some ammonia issues in the HT, so today I moved it to my regular QT tank. Was tricky getting him off the glass bottom. Note to self: put in a bigger rock next time!

Photo is the best I can do for now; looks OK in this picture, though it is not planting foot yet. We'll see.

I'd assume it would, but I would never suggest using Cipro in you DT (if that is what you were thinking?). Best done in a tank purpose set up for the task.

Mag has taken a significant turn for the worse - not really sure why. Back in the HT for another round of Cipro. At this point I'm not optimistic.

Perhaps. Have done a 100% water change in the HT, and will be more diligent about doing them. Nem looks OK, but is expelling white stringy stuff from its mouth, so fingers crossed.

:mad2: Well, this looks like it is going to be one for the loss column. Apparently I patted myself on the back prematurely. Not really sure what happened. Perhaps there was physical damage to the foot that went unnoticed by me. Since about cipro day 7 this nem has gone slowly downhill to the point tonight that it is losing grip on the tank bottom and looking like it is turning itself inside out. Really too bad!

Well, as it turns out, Mag was not a pile of goo this morning as I had expected, and actually looks quite a bit better today. Mouth is still distended, and it has been putting out a lot of schmutz, and the foot still does seem to be sloughing tissue a bit - but no foul smell, spilled guts or retracted foot. So will stay the course and see.

I must say this one has me all messed up - must be a female :). Just when I think it's going to be fine, uh oh, something goes wrong; then when I think it's a gonner, there's a rally. No clue at this point. Will just continue treatment and hope for the best. I'm not kidding, last night this thing looked awful (though not quite as bad as the one ryanterror got from LA) and I've not had anything reef related look that bad and make it thru the night.

As this is the second round of cipro, I have decided to be a bit more aggressive about the daily water changes (given my ammonia problems before), basically refreshing about 3/4 of the volume, and have also been using a slightly higher dosage than Minh suggests in his protocol. You will note that this time I have included a rock so I don't have to peel it off the bottom of the tank if/when it becomes time to move it out of HT.

Lesson in all this though is to not give up on these things until they are literally falling apart and stinking up the tank!

It looks good. I always try to get my anemones attach to something other than the tank so that I won't stress it transfer to the DT. I like coffee so I think my anemones like coffee cups. :)

Mag continues to hang in there. Still spitting out small 'rat poops' and the foot is not completely attached (perhaps there was foot damage?), but no deflation and nem looks OK overall. I think I will move it back into my no-meds QT this weekend and see what happens. Two courses of Cipro is sufficient IMO, so 'sink or swim' I think.

I ended up doing 3 rounds on this guy. Till about 4 days before the last treatment was spitting out small black rat poop looking chunks.

Interesting.

Have now completed two rounds, and nem is up and down. At this point I think I will put it into my observation tank and see what happens.
