Cool Fish on Diver's Den

Anyone know if DD keeps their CB fish in separate systems from wild caught fish? I emailed them but they just replied with a link to their quarantine procedure and didn't answer the actual question.

CB fish are held with all the others available in DD. They have a very generic response to most questions asked. I have kept pressing questions to customer service in the past and have been able to email back and forth with Kevin about specific questions for better clarification

That's disappointing. Kind of makes buying a CB fish from them pointless.

Not pointless. They are hardier fish usually. You were going to put it with your non-cb fish correct? How is it any different?
Still QT regardless

No. They will be in a tank with only CB fish. With CB fish becoming more common I think it would make a lot of sense for wholesalers to keep CB in separate systems. Maybe they are more hardy but being CB they also have no immunity built up to any of the pathogens that WC fish are exposed to.

Unfortunately, I do not feel that will ever really happen. I don't see how it could be cost effective for the major wholesalers to setup dedicated systems for such, let alone be devoted to preventing any cross contamination.

I guess cross contamination could be a problem but I can't see how having a system that they only use for CB fish would add anything significant to their operating costs. Hopefully as more CB fish are becoming available some will start making an effort to keep them clean of disease.

Somebody with seriously misplaced priorities has apparently bought this fish ......

That's pretty bold. There are many people on here who can way afford this fish and have plenty of their priorities taken care of first. Just cuz you feel differently doesn't mean they feel the same.
I bet many people think all of us on here have misplaced priorities for even being in this hobby to begin with

I gotta agree.

Buy fish that excite you, don't worry about others.
Although, 1300 for a polyzona is a little too high. I think that's what Calore meant :)

Not bold at all as my comment was meant as a self deprecating joke ....... It's arriving Tuesday

Geez, was this really all that hard to take lightly? Or better yet, even if he was serious, so what - he can't have an opinion?

Lol, calore congrats.

But people do say those things in seriousness, and yes, people have their opinions and are entitled to them, and I said my opinion as well zooman

For a wholesaler it would not only be easy to do but also cost effective. Or do you think the large wholesaler only have one system with all tanks plumbed together? That would actually be risky to the point of self-destruction.
Every serious wholesaler who is in business for a while has multiple, separate systems to avoid cross contamination. And that's not including the generally separated inverts and coral systems.
So, it's quite easy to dedicate one system just to captive bred fish these days.

I don't know how DD is doing it, but they are not a wholesaler.
Though I would imagine that they have at least a separate system for new arrivals so that they don't risk infecting established stock.

FWIW, I completely agree with your broader point. Value, like beauty, is very much in the eye of the beholder.
