Someone said somewhere you can buy copods to get started in your tank.Has anyone had any luck anywhere.Just to give a heads up I only FO with little LR(25lbs.)But I am trying to get my scooter blenny eating and tomorrow I am going to try brine shrimp.I think I am loosing them because they aren't eating the flake,sm.pellets,or krill that I am puting in the tank.
Thanks
Lou

I had copepods in my tank, they came in with some live rock and just started breeding like crazy, the clownfish didn't eat them so they just bred. It's easy once they get a good population up :)

Scooter blennys prefer to eat live food and anything that's moving, so he likely does not know that the flakes and pellets are even food. If the krill is alive he might take that.

There's a few sites that sell copepods live. I don't know what the success rate is with them. I just know they sell them.

Total newbie post here but what is LS?

I recently added some live rock and chaeto to my refugium and was hoping to add some copepods that way. I saw a fair number at the beginning of QT but none by the end. Should I have been feeding them?

Thanks

LS - live sand?

Can you just add some of the pre-packaged live sand to your tank? Do you need to QT it (QT anything wet...)? If you want a bare bottom refugium can you add it on top of the substrate in your DT?

Thanks again.

Add some true LS. It is infected with the little buggers. :D

WaterKeeper, I hear a lot about this but just who sells "true LS"?
I think I need some....

http://www.livesand.com/

I bought mine from my LFS but I have seen the exact same bags at my local petco. All I did was put the LS in when I setup my tank and two weeks later I was gawking at my tank and noticed little "shrimp" like things swimming around. They were getting out of control at one point, all over the glass, all over the rocks. I put 1lb of live rock rubble and that is the source of it all now, they grow up there and venture out to the large pieces of rock. Only thing is now my BTA likes the rubble =( what a nuisance....

http://www.livesand.com I do not know much but think that has live bacteria in it, not pods, etc! EBAY, sure about everyone has heard of it but so many I have corresponded with that got "live" sand could not find any pods, shrimp, starfish etc. in it.. I think what I am looking for and most are, are not only looking for bacteria but also "squiggles" in it. Get it squiggles. Pods, shrimp etc.

I was talking about Ebay more for obtaining cultures of pods. Just do a search for copepods on ebay and you'll get all sorts of listings.

I believe squiggle is correct. It contains bacteria but not the worms, pods, ministars, etc that stir the bed. Firesole, worms and such are important too. It is not just copepods that make up the sand shifters.

yes I am aware of that, my comments were solely based on the original posted question which was talking about where to get a supply of pods, nothing about live sand. I agree with you completely.

You're right Firesole. The question is on Pods and I'm talking sand. It is early morning and I haven't had coffee yet. ;)

ya the question is on pods which can be found in established live sand .......So your right on waterkeeper(as usaul)..but a second cup of coffee never hurts

I have got pods a few time from ebay. I bought them from Piece-of-the-Reef. There shipping is fast and you get alot of pods.
