Coral Tank from Canada (1350gal Display Tank) - split

I'll finish up here with some night pics. I never figured out how to take good shots with just blue lighting. You just can't reproduce the fluorescence you see in real life.

aweful...just aweful :(. anyone that's been in the hobby awhile will eventually face a test, disaster or major issue, that requires a gut check. reefers can be as resilient as some of the fish and corals we keep as its in our DNA to keep going! your Phoenix will rise from these ashes!

OMG!!!! I remember seeing these videos on YouTube a few years ago, easily STILL one of my favorite private aquariums. I am sorry to hear of your disaster, but please don't give up!!!!!!!

I know that most ATM tanks are 2-part WO #40 (at least they are now, on the show) but regardless of what was used, this failure appears (from the pictures) to be a clean separation at the joint. This can only mean that the joint was weak.

The material looks to be at least 1.5", maybe 2"?

James (Acrylics) says that he uses solvent for welding up to 2" thick panel, and that you know a solvent joint is good right away vs a 2-part one, which you can't tell until you fill it and it holds. Most big tank failures (cylinders, etc) are 2-part joints. 2-part joints look stellarly clear / invisible, but there is a high amount of debate about which is actually stronger.

Our LFS had a 1500g tank that had a similar failure along the seam at the bottom edge, ripped the whole panel off and emptied into the store in 2.5 seconds. Caught on video. It was a test fill. Store had full replacement cost insurance and got it replaced right before the manufacturer went belly up (the "T" company)

Can these guys build an aquarium? It is no accident that they are certainly recognized as being in the world's top acrylic aquarium manufacturers. I have an unwritten insurance policy that inherently comes with the custom order........ They won't build a tank that's wrong! The tank was custom built in Las Vegas and shipped over two thousand miles on a flatbed to a suburb of Toronto Ontario without a hitch. More on this later.............

I would be interested to hear how this pans out

WOW! :( Thank you for the detailed description of the tank failure. It was painful to read. I hope you do go bigger and better as you clearly have a blue thumb. This was my first time reading your thread and obviously the latest development came as a total shock. Absolutely terrible and I hope ATM takes some responsibility here.

WOW.. I am completely speechless, I have watched the videos on this tank over and over again. Im sorry that this has happened and I do hope that Peter, his family and team honor us with another build. It was truly a pleasure watching the updates on this tank. I hope that ATM does something to make this build right.

Im sorry for your loss at this time....
Richie

I like your attitude and thanks for sharing.
I feel for the organisms that perished and hope the remaining ones will get to see and live the rebuild.

Looking at that massive rip at the seam would make me think about additional support against the outward water pressure.
