When we replaced the filters 3 weeks ago, the TDS after the Merlin unit was 4, and water out after resin tank was zero. I have been averaging about 5 months between filter changes. I found that flushing 2 or 3 gallons of RO water out of the Merlin before running it through the DI tank extends the life of resin by more than a month.
Ditto, welcome Chago to the build. Hoping he can bridge the commercial to hobby gap and also help us with smaller systems build the best RO/DI that we can for our fish and corals!
So I am going to custom build a system for Peter. I will keep everyone in the loop as I go along. And yes Sara I hope my little invention will bridge the gap between commercial - hobby - residential. Our hobby is somewhere in the middle between commercial and residential.
I agree. I've been using this unit for a few years and it works flawlessly. Plumbed it right into the water line. No booster pump necessary. Auto shut off too. You can add DI to get zero readings.
Thank you, that's fantastic news and I can't wait to see this part evolve!
Absolutely brilliant!!!nineball said:Introduce veterinary consultant to thread community.

Cougarman, the Goodwin mention you was replacing his DI every 600 gallons. That means that the Merlin is not running perfectly. The Merlins issue is TDS creep. No no no TDS creep isn't crust building up like salt creep, TDS creep is an up and down TDS reading from water coming out. Those of you who have a Merlin. Leave it off for a day. Then turn it on and the first drop of water I want you to test with a TDS before the DI. I promise you it will be higher. Merlins technology requires the unit to run a little first before you use the water. So if your using auto top off and the water stops for a few hours. Then all of a sudden it starts, your DI is going to get punished with high TDS. End of the day your getting 0TDS in your tank thanks to the DI, but your going through DI like nuts. A decent DI should not last 600 gallons more like 5000 gallons. Here is an article from a site on this unit.

Again I am not bashing this unit. It is better then a simple home unit. But it isn't the best and has lots of things that need improvement. I personally would not own one.
I run 2 or 3 gallons through Merlin before it is directed through the DI tank. Tis really extends the life of the DI. I'm getting at least 5 to 6 thousand gallons of good water before I change out the filters & resin.
sorry I used your name but I ment aquinas.
So your not using a auto top off system? auto top off would allow that high TDS into the DI. Like I said before what works for one does not work for all.
Our snail just keeps on hummin along................he's about 6" and growin.
Is this good???
