Cryptocaryon Irritans - tank transfer method

Yes, several . nutamar ova sounds good. I've also used frozen cyclopeeze and small bits of mysis/bllodworm and brine. A sponge bubble up filter in each of the transer tanks pulls some in and they tend to peck at it there.

Steve thanks for this thread! I read most of it but just want to triple check with you, does this look right? Fish was put into first tank on the 30th….salinity will be matched along with temperature with each transfer:

-Sunday 30th- fish in tank
Monday 31st
Tuesday 1st

-Wednesday 2nd- fish transferred in new tank before lights
Thursday 3rd
Friday 5th

-Saturday 6th- fish transferred in new tank before lights
Sunday 7th
Monday 8th

-Tuesday 9th- fish transferred in new tank before lights
Wednesday 10th
Thursday 11th

-Friday 12th- fish transferred in new tank before lights
Saturday 13th- start Prazipro treatment……

Does transferring multiple fish simultaneously change how effective this method is?

My DT is currently fallow, so I had to transfer 5 fish together. Should I do more than 4 transfers just to be safe?

I'm definitely a believer in this method now. Wish I'd subscribed to it sooner.

Thanks in advance,

Adam

Just a quick question on cleaning items between reuse. I plan on using 1:10 bleach solution but would like to know how long do I need to soak the items in the solution for. I will also ensure all items are dried and left dry for 24 hours prior to use. I may even use a hair dryer to ensure items are completely dry. Am I on the right track.

No comments on the questions as I've only done this method with my current crop of fish but I will say that one thing I like about it -- I think it provides immediate relief for a positively infected fish. IME, fish that were exhibiting ich symptoms were noticeably less irritated (less coughing and scraping) after the first transfer and basically looked completely healthy after the second.

I just finished the 12 day cycle - nothing appears to be infected but I'm going to run them through a couple of more cycles to be safe. Plus, there's plenty of time with the DT needing to be fallow.

I use a much stronger ratio, but your ratio should be fine. Careful with hair dryer as I just melted some 1ml syringes in less than 20 seconds using one.

No difference based on quantity of fish. Just make sure you aren't cramming the tank with them, as ammonia will build up faster and/or aggression may kick up.

Won't be 'immediate', but what it does do is takes the fish out of an infected environment that the fish has no chance of winning the battle in. Bad cases of Ich occur due to a relentless bombardment of cysts hatching and attacking the fish (never-ending so the fish can't win the fight). When you put a fish into a new tank with fresh uninfected water, that bombardment stops completely and you only have to worry about the current Ich on the fish itself, which will start dropping off that next morning throughout the next 6 days. You still need to worry about the fish going crazy and scratching itself causing infections during that time, but within just a few days the quantity of Ich on the fish will likely be down to a manageable level for them to push through.

In tank transfer, an anti-ammonia solution will work fine unless the bioload is really excessive.

Snorvich, what equipment would be needed for TTM?

I have just a DT right now fully setup. If needed I can get a QT setup, but would the TTM work using just the DT and the QT? Or would 2 QT's be necessary to effectively do TTM?

For info: I have 2 small clowns right now, one has a single small white dot on on fin about the size of a pod of some sort which is what I'm hoping it is. I'd rather not have to treat with copper for obvious reasons. Behavior of the clown in question is completely normal(for a clown), and he is eating/swimming etc all normally.

If it is ich, then would I be okay with picking up a 2.5g QT w/ HOB filter and heater, along with some prime, which would mean I'd be transferring from DT to QT and vice versa? Or would I need two of the 2.5g tanks+heaters to do it?

Also if it is ich on the one clown, I assume TTM would be needed on both clowns?

Finally, how long does TTM take to do in total? I'm in a dorm room, going home May 1st, and we aren't supposed to have more than 1 10G tank, although I think if I talked to my RA's etc to explain it's for treatment I'd be okay with 1 or 2 extra 2.5G tanks. I do have a .5G betta tank which is empty that I use for acclimation but my assumption is that'd be way too small for TTM, although like I said I'm in a dorm so space is at a premium thus wanting to use 2.5G tanks.

Edit: I could maybe do 5G buckets but would really rather not if possible, two 2.5G tanks would be way more preferable since they take up so much less space.

Here are videos so you can see what I mean by he looks normal.
First is him in the .5G betta tank, I put him in that for ~5 minutes today to get a closer look: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=amwZAFIYNbE&feature=youtu.be
Next, here's him in the DT: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4kM81JziBhQ&feature=youtu.be

Right I understand all of that. I don't know fully what equipment I need or if the DT can be used as one of the two tanks to transfer from and to, or even if the fish has ich, which is why I left two videos.

ie, would I need to buy:
1x HOB filter
1x 2.5G tank
1x 50W heater
or, 2x 2.5G tanks?

Right now I have just a 10G DT that the clowns are already in like I said since we aren't allowed more than 1 tank. (Rookie mistake I know)

Thanks for the replies. I'm using Amquel with my 5 fish that are transferring together in 29 gal bins.

Thanks again,

Adam

You can not use the DT as one of the tanks because each tank has to be completely broken down and sterilized between transfers.
