Cryptocaryon Irritans - tank transfer method

Unfortunately, my Flame Angel passed, just one day after receiving it. That being said, I don't think it had anything to do with my water, QT, or anything else I was doing.

How is it going?

Also for the pros here. If doing ttm with a wrasse should I put a small container of sand in the tank for him to sleep in and discard the sand at every tank change?

i just pour a small layer of sand on the bottom of the tank. Other put the sand in a container. either way the sand has to be discarded after the 3 days

I am doing TT and just moved the fish for the first time this morning. Tonight as I was emptying water from the first tank, I spilled some (maybe a couple of cups of water from the old tank) into the new tank. Do I need to start over or can I continue from where I am in the process? Thanks in advance!

Well if its anything like my situation you should be on the watch. I finished 4 rounds of tank transferring and 1 week into my quarantine period I have ich show up again. I'm not sure if it was cross contamination from feeding utensils or what. Starting the TTM process again.

Basically, even in healthy tanks, never share any equipment.

? about hypo

Started hypo few days ago... I noticed my ph is around 7.6 to 7.8..i read that its important to pay close attention to parameters. The article discusses the use of baking soda to keep a solid ph level.. Can anyone tell me the procedure for adding b soda?

So, I'm on day 3 of the first cycle of the tank transfer method. Tomorrow morning I will be transferring to the new tank with new water. What is the best method for catching the fish with the two goals of minimizing fish stress, and minimizing water cross-contamination? I realize there will be differing opinions here. I was thinking drain the tank down to a couple inches and hand catch them with gloves on. None of them are venomous.

I use a plastic colander when transferring fish, because it's easier and quicker for me. Cheap, too ($5 at WalMart).

Cool, thanks. I think I'll try not draining too much water out as I don't want to stir up any cysts that are on the bottom. Another question I have: I put 4 of the 5 fish in the TT tank and wasn't able to get the last fish in until 2 days later. Should I tack another transfer on to the end of the normal TTM for good measure? Seems like it can't hurt.

I have done this twice now. I use a small, square, glass vase. Being glass, the vase becomes near transparent in the water, and makes catching the fish a little easier. I do drain the water down to a few inches, catch a fish, cover the opening of the vase with my fingers spread slightly apart. I then drain the water out of the vase and immediately transfer the fish to the fresh tank. Good Luck.

Would it be a problem to treat with prazipro before doing ttm? I am setting up my new tank and would like to treat with prazipro and do the ttm before I move my fish to it just to be safe. I have had all the fish for at least 6 months and am considering just doing the prazipro treatment in their current tank then doing the ttm and into the new tank. What size tank would I need for ttm to do a pair of clowns, small sailfin, starry blenny, melanarus wrasse, and 2 green chromis at the same time?

I know this is a bit late, but just wanted to say to the people reading this thread, that I use Prazipro during the TTM and have not had any problems. I've done the TTM about six time already as I'm in the process of filling my 300g with fish. I'm currently doing the TTM on a "Epaulette Surgeonfish" and a "Zebra Barred Dartfish". Both are doing fine.

So, I transferred all of the fish to the new tank this morning (Day 4). It went prety well. I caught them with a clear glass, and then used my hand to drain the water out to minimize cross-contamination. I do wish I could move the fish without them flopping all over the place in the bottom of the empty cup. Oh well, didn't seem to phase them. I then let them slide out of the cup into the new tank.

Exactly how I felt. My Anthias flopped so hard I thought he was going to break his spine! He survived with flying colors and looks great in my DT!

Has anyone doing TTM used any dips in between tanks to help reduce any stray cysts on your hand/net/container/etc? I'm thinking of using the new blue line safety stop stuff as a cautionary.

When I opt to do TT on incoming fish - By day 13 they should be clear of Crypto. Two rounds of Prazi (done after TT) eats up another 10 days and clears them of flukes. So, after that, if I choose to just observe and not prophylactically treat any further... I would still have maladies such as Velvet, Brook, Uronema marinum to worry about; correct?

How long would it take any of these to show themselves in a bare bottom QT environment?

Correct. I personally always do PP and count that within the 30 day observation period after TT.
