Hey brcb7tuner, Nope. I still use the brightwells and love it. I do ~30g water change every week.
Acros are looking just beautiful James but then i kinda expect that when i catch up on your journal mate
I'm especially jealous of your purple stag, i'd love to find a branch of that color one day as i only ever see heaps of wild blues and greens for sale. Btw i always notice how you go out of your way to de-saturate your pics and err on the side of drab lol - those of us who've seen a lot of acros know what they look like in real life mate but i think you could throw in the odd gratuitously saturated pic just to remind everyone else........
Did i read that you're going to transfer everything over to a more conventional rock scape with a new tank, if so how do you go about getting those beauties off the acrylic or would you break them up a bit and spread them around a bit. Sorry if i've confused you with another reefer :spin3:
Hey Biggles, LOL.:lolspin: Great to hear from you! One of these days I will have to show a couple side-by-side shots of some of the corals. I love the natural look of the corals, but I also like the hyper blue or actinic look as well.
If everything falls into place this year, I will be starting a new tank. I will still have a tank with acrylic racks, but will also venture back into the natural reef look. I've learned so much with this tank and really look forward to trying some new things. I'm thinking rimless, minimalist, bonsai, and zeovit.

You are correct. That is the true Oregon Tort from my buddy JimC. When he was getting out of the hobby about a year ago, he had a nice colony that he split between me and another local reefer. Its different from my other tort that was sold to me as ORA Oregon Tort. It is also a very slow growing coral. Both corals are very nice and very blue, but the TOT does not get any green in the base. The OOT is a bit of a mystery to me. I'm still on the fence on if it is OOT or Cali Tort. Take a look

Hi ynot65, Feel free to bounce your zeo questions/ideas off of me. I've been full zeo for a couple years now. I've learned quite a bit from my experience and would be happy to help you along. The best advice I can give someone venturing into the wonderful world of zeo... take it slow. Zeo is the most challenging and advanced method (IMHO)to keeping stony corals. Zeo can do some amazing things for your reef. It can also do some very nasty things to your reef. Read the zeo guide and ask all the questions you can. Good luck!

Hi James,this is Pete in GR ,MI.I bought SPS from you last year by the way.
I have a question for you. How do you balance your nitrate at .5 and the phosphate at say 0.02 ? If you do it with Zeovit, then I am dead,because at this time I cannot afford it.
Any other suggestions you have to help that along.Both of my readings are at 0 right now.
I am running ceramic biotuubs and have a small algea problem in my tank. My SPS are healthy but do not show much growth.

Hope all is well!
With zeovit, I am able to match my nutrient export with my nutrient import (feeding). With regular testing, I know how much I can feed without raising my levels beyond my target params. If you have an algae problem and also have 0 nitrates and 0 phosphates, your nuisance algae may be keeping your nutrients low. Can you tell me a little more about the algae in your tank? What does it look like?

I have used ZeoSpur2 Concentrate many times over the past couple of years. It is by far the most advanced (and dangerous) additive I have ever used. It can change the coloration of your corals in less than 48 hours. It can give you the familiar zeo look if used correctly. It can also bleach your corals if you over dose. With ZeoSpur2, its best to start with half the recommended dosage and work your way up to the full recommended dosage. I do not dose more than once every 2-3 weeks. I also do not dose if my corals are not 100% healthy. I've been very reluctant to talk about this additive. There are many new zeo users out there. This additive is only for the advanced SPS keepers. I just like to compare and share thoughts. I'm not a complete Zeo guy but a hybrid user. I'm a long time vinegar doser but do like some of the Zeo products added to the mix. Because I'm not using a proven system I tend to be very careful and start my doses pretty slow. Currently I dose a half dose of spur about every month or so but often longer depending on color. I find my Millies get too light if I dose any often than that.

You can use the Spur2 in any low nutrient system. I find that it makes some corals, like my miami orchid, look incredible. Other corals, like my PC Rainbow, become very light in color. There are also some SPS that show no color change at all. Have you tried using the phols extra special with the Spur2 yet?:inlove:

OK, James.I have 3 kinds of algea.NO 1 is small tuffts of green algea which does not bother me.The next one is red turf brush algea all over the tank and the third one is coming on very strong and is the flat and wide green algea. The more I pick it out the more it multiplies.I bought my T5 fixture last summer with slightly used bulbs ( I was told). I wonder if that is the problem.

Which leads to me liking current look. Of course in terms of colours you corals are top class. :thumbsup:

You are correct. I do have some deeper coloration in my corals. When those pics were taken, everything was the same in my tank... with one small difference
I raised my lights and used a shorter photo period. I was keeping PAR at the center of my tank a little over 700. My Yellow "Tort" really liked the bright light, but other corals just didn't have the deep coloration I was after. I have since lowered the PAR at the center of my tank to ~540. I'm getting much better/deeper coloration in my SPS. I'll have some new pics in the coming months. Warmest Regards,
