d2mini's "Essential Focus" Mixed Reef Build

Hmmm I always have low nitrates. Maybe I should dose stump remover and kill two birds with one stone. Nitrates and Potassium.

I don't think my Potassium has been affected yet.
It was 400 before I started nitrate dosing and some is added daily via Triton.

First FTS of 2017... 7 months old.
Slow but sure... needs more fish and coral. :D

Looking good Dennis. Yes to more fish, but no to more coral. It looks like you have a nice number of pieces. Let them have some room to get big.

Dennis your tank is looking fantastic. While I am just SPS I must admit the movement in your tank is enticing. Good Job.

BTW I am going to start using the Triton method. Should have my sump next week, i copied yours. So your feed back is helping a lot with avoiding some of the issues you have had to deal with.

Thanks

Thanks, and good luck with Triton!
One thing to note that has changed since I set mine up... they are replacing the original Core Elements with the new Core7 which are 7x as concentrated. And for whatever reason, they say it's better to dose the Core7 directly into the refugium rather than the return section of the sump. Just FYI. I still need to see if I can move mine over. I just transitioned to Core7 this past week.

D2mini, very nice build. You certainly pay attention to the lines of a tank. While not quite as clean as the Elos, I recently found a new DSA pro that I'm working on. I do have a question,
Where (if you've shared it) can I find info on how you kept your coral during the transition of tanks and the move?

I sold most of it. Kept just a few pieces in a nano i set up at my office.

You have gone back and forward with LED's. Which light source do you prefer:
LED
MH/T5
T5

All things equal (growth and color), I'd take the LEDs for the other benefits.
I think we are at a point now both in the technology and implementation that similar results can be achieved with either of the 3.
Although, to get the amount of light I'd want... I still find it a bit hard to justify the initial startup cost with the higher end led fixtures like the Radions.
3 G4 Pros over my size tank isn't exactly cheap.

That's why I love nano tanks. You can have high end equipment without breaking the bank...
Don't get me wrong..... I want large Elos someday. I promised my wife we would go to Europe first..

What size piping are you using for your drain? Did you have to source connection plumbing for your overflow?

If I remember correctly it's 1"... but possibly 1.25".
I'll need to double check. My memory sucks. lol
It comes with plumbing connections but then I did have them send me another barb fitting to connect things they way I wanted to.
You can just use a threaded to slip pvc adapter if you want. Threads right in to the bottom of the overflow.

For my mission to get more fish in the tank, I've had these two guys under observation since Monday.
