I don't blame you for starting over. Losing all your fish sucks big time.
Thanks!
Dennis, I am sorry to hear you had to start over. Thank you for sharing. Can't wait to watch your tank start over. Good luck!
Marty
Thank you
Sad turn of events Dennis. I give you mad props for trying something new. I am a chicken, I will always stay with what I know.
haha, yeah well... I like to tinker with new stuff.
The more I reef the more the KISS principle comes true. Keep it simple, stupid.
Yep, true. In some ways I thought this was pretty simple. hmmm
Holy shizle!
I couldn't believe it when I saw the tank empty..
Man you got energy. I'm so lazy I probably would have ridden out the issues.. probably to my tank's demise.
Nice work.
So, since you did a bleaching and everything, you will go with all new rock and sand? Do you worry about transferring something back with the corals? It'll be a radically different chemical makeup this time... maybe not a concern..
Good luck!
haha yeah... the last two days was a bear. But I'm done and ready to add rock and sand.
I'm not worried about the coral. I think the sand is the worst if I had to guess. Easy place for dinos to hide.
And I hear they hate fresh water, let alone bleach.
With the few success stories I heard, all sand was replaced.
Sorry Dennis.
Thanks bud.
Damn, sorry to see this! I saw your post on Marsh and wondered
What happened.
Very interested to see what you do next. Having just started trying to keep coral and sps specifically I was following along with your tank. Makes me wonder about triton nom. You are way more experienced than I am.
If my fuge never crashed, might have still been going ok.
Hey D2,
Sorry to hear about your restart but I think you did the right thing. I tried a few of those dosing methods before and aside from the cost I found a lot of them highly ineffective. I found that the redsea colorup program worked the best for me because I dosed it whenever I felt like or remembered.
On my new tank I have a dosing system that will run like every other day dosing some trace elements mixed and diluted with RO water. The base supplements will come from a calcium reactor that I'm shopping for.
I have tried large fuges before and aside from becoming a maintenance mess I never truly believed they did anything other than a ton of pods.
I've always liked my large refugiums. With strong light, the chaeto grows like mad and keeps my nutrients down.
My favorite is Julian Sprung's fuge... that sucker is so cool.
It's a whole other display tank, but it really filters the tank.
Look it up if you have a chance. There's some youtube video of it.
Holy crap,
I almost fell off my chair when I saw the empty tank pic upon opening this thread. My first thought was you were setting up an amazing frag tank. Then i realized it was the Elos....Good luck with the reboot.
Thanks. Wish I was setting up a frag tank!
that sucks man, sorry to hear.
Is there anything equipment wise or setup wise you are thinking you might do this go round that you missed after you had the setup done the first time?
Well with Triton I needed a specific style sump.
Look for a change on that front in the not so distant future.
For now I'll continue to dose two part (ESV Bionic) but will eventually go back to a CaRx.
Any choice on return yet? Was set on the Echotech for my 120g till your review, now thinking about pulling the trigger on the Current USA eFlux.
Back burner. The L1 is fine for now. But VERY interested in the new Sicce pumps coming out.
