Loved all the pictures ... yea, it's hard not to keep buying more and more and more. :D

THANK YOU VERY MUCH !!! For your comments !!!!!

Here goes the weekend Acro additions. Pictures taken 24 hours after being dipped. They all come from a local reefer.

This is a plate growing Acro. Redish with cream.

2 pieces placed in different locations. Pictures of both helps for future refrence.

Blue Hawkin Echinata

And this one:

Now UPDATE since I started to use AF Probiotic Salt:

I have seen an improvement in polyps extension. And in general in the aquarium. It can be subjective, but is there.

I do dose NP pro that came with the salt bucket, but only when I am at home in the evenings. That is half of the week. I can't be consistent.

I do my WC in the Fuge. Every weekend ~ 20% . I have NEVER seen this green color in my Macro Algaes. Plus they are growing out of the Macro Cage. (Zoom pictures)

At the start of AF probiotic Salts water changes I had a decline in Alk levels from 7+ to 6.5 dkh. After several weeks increasing the dosing slowly I was able to hit 7 dkh again. I have been in 7.3 dkh for the last 3 days. Last time I checked was yesterday. I will retest again at my return on Friday.

I have ordered Bio S to keep my bacteria population , and have 4 Probiotic Salt Buckets in the basement, just in case the ship from Poland sinks .......LOL.

Your tank is soooo jam packed with life!!! Healthy and thriving.. It reminds me of a mini scottyfreddy tank.
Dan, it is not easy to control such a s3mall environment, especially when the water to coral ratio gets so small, like yours is getting.
This requires special skill.. And you my friend are demonstrating that you are very skilled indeed!!

What is a mini Scottyfreddy tank ?

I am NOT skillful at all. I took a decision: The tanks is driven by biology or I can't have it. I was lucky that I had that room in the back of the tank where I placed the fuge. That was really sooooo lucky. I never thought about it. Then it was simple, I added the biggest refugium I could in that space (without going to a something crazy), added the Matrix for Bacteria real state and waited with my fingers crossed. Feeding every other day until my Phosp and NO3 went down. Then reading your thread and the others at RC I realized that the next step was to increase and keep some P and N. That I can do that by increasing the fish # and as a consequence feeding more......and that's all. Plus every weekend a 10-20 % water change.

Then the classical housekeeping with pumps and dry skimming. No mechanical filtration at all. Let the detritus float alone and follow their natural degradation.

Everyone can do this. But what You, Matt, Perry, Andrew, Mark and many many others are doing to increase and keep Coral colors it is MORE diffucult and requieres more skills. And I can't do it.

I love that Hawkins! My favorite type of Acropora are the smooth skin varieties. Congrats on the pick ups:). I'm amazed at how much macro algae you have in that cage! Does the yellow tang eat it or is it just too much for him? Over 20 years ago I bought a bunch of Caluerpa for my display and after getting it all aranged my tang went on a feeding frenzy and ate it all in about 15 minutes:lol:

That cage has the size of a 20 G tank. It is within a 40 G breeder.

The yellow tang LOVES Chaeto.....see what he is pooping in the picture.

He do not touch the Caulerpa but I think it is because it is too much. BUT !!!! If he detects a filament of Cheato going out if the cage he eats it as Espaguetis. ...Lol

Zoom the picture and watch his contribution to the tank nutrients......

Technology helps !!!!!

Today I finish my meeting and was in the car driving from Philly to New York when I received a Txt message from my Apex. "There was a lost of electric power at home from 10 AM till 2 PM ". And my house is nearby Boston. I was far away.

I stop the car and open Apex Fusion, the cloud based software that provides me all the info about whatever is connected to my Apex. Also allows me to do modifications. In other words to control whatever I have connected to the Apex. I only need internet (The phone today) to do it.

First I saw that the Temp dropped from 78 F to 76 F. But was starting to increase again. Lights were on, heater working as well as WaveMaker pumps.......Good !!!

Second I saw that my PH was still ~8 and starting to increase. That was logic because the house lost electricity at 10 AM, and the tank and fuge lights go ON at ~10:30. So photosynthesis hasn't started yet. By 3 PM the PH was going up because lights were ON and the light cycle of the photosynthesis was doing his job.......Good !!!

Third.......the DOSING PUMPS (Neptune DOS system). As expected they were OFF from 10 AM to 2 PM. 4 Hours !!!. I though....Oh hell, I have a problem !!!!. Dosing pumps were working again following the dosing program BUT I was missing several doses (pumps dose every 18 minutes). I said to myself: RELAX !!! , drive to the hotel and check at 7 PM (end of dosing program) how much you missed of your 83 ml Alk/Ca total daily dose. Pumps missed 15 ml. That is a lot on a total of 83 ml. Using Fusion , I generated a new dosing interval from 7:30 PM to 10:30 PM telling the pumps to dose 15 ml during that interval. DONE !!!! the pumps are working right now and I am getting all the info through Fusion, the Apex cloud based software.

Isn't fantastic that from any part of the world you can have control over your tank.

Of course, I do not have control on ALL what is connected to my tank through Apex because I want to have my eggs in different nests. If I connect ALL to Apex and Apex fail I screw all the tank.

Bottom line , I feel now so relax that at the end of today, at 10:30 PM all the,Alk/Ca that I dose every day will be dosed.

Isn't it good folks !!!

Cheers
Daniel

That is an awesome example of the power of the Apex- the combination of control, historical records, and notifications are incredible! It's so much more than a timer!

Awesome Daniel.

Last year when the family traveled to San Antonio I set up an Apex feeder and opened the sump doors so I could see levels with the Nest camera. Since everything is plugged into an Apex controlled outlet I can almost do anything (including turning sump work lights on and off). I love the Apex.

Only problem is that if the Apex ever fails I'll be in a panic. :D

What a great example of why Technology is a great thing. I haven't hooked up my apex yet, it's still sitting in its box, waiting for me to research how to program it. It tells you only after the fact that the powers out? Not that it lost power real time? (I can research this too. That stuck out to me)

Apex can't send a txt message if it is without power. I received my message at 2:02 PM saying the power was lost at 10 AM and was restored at 2 PM.

I believe some reefers have the Apex hooked to an UPS and programmed to detect the lost off power. The UPS provide time to send the txt. If this is correct, that is something I have to learn too.

Cheers
Daniel

Ps: programming using Fusion wizards is very easy and intuitive!!!! I do not like the complicated programs many use.

Sounds good. I thought maybe fusion would sense the unit didn't have power and send the message. Good to know as I was anticipating real time notice. Still great to know after the fact as well!
